This lesson plan demonstrates my development in Professional
Competencies 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, and 10. After finishing our novel called Copper
Sunrise, I created a lesson plan that had the students participate in a group discussion about the topic of traditions. Students were encouraged to work together to fill in the discussion sheet. I personally made the groups, with the goal of mixing in students of different levels, as well as mixing in students who normally dont talk to one another (PC 4 and 6). Additionally, students were assigned roles in their groups. This gave them some responsibility and encourages them to remain on task (PC 6). The lesson went well and many of the students were actively involved in the discussion. The second part of the lesson plan is the introduction of the spirit animal project. Students are given the task of discovering their spirit animals, explaining why they think that that animal represents them, explaining the benefits of having a spirit animal, and providing a drawing or illustration of their spirit animal. This project allows students to research their spirit animals (PC 8) incorporate ICT into their learning. Finally, I came up with the idea of having students discover and write about their spirit animals. Meanwhile, my cooperating teacher further enhanced my idea of spirit animals by having the students draw or provide an illustration of their spirit animals and put it up at the back of the classroom. This cooperatively developed lesson demonstrates my development of PC 10.
