The first student learning outcome (SLO 1) for the course Geography 1L is that a student

is able to look at physical geography data, patterns, and process (from the atmosphere,
lithosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere) (Course Syllabus) and be able to interpret and
understand what it all means, then be able to relate it to previous patterns and to use it to predict
the patterns of the future. Specifically, a student is able to process and interpret meteorological
data and construct a synoptic weather map, process and interpret climatic data and locate,
describe and analyze the 11 major climate types of the world, and analyze in terms of structure,
process, and stage the major landform types of the world (Course Syllabus). What it means is
for a student to look at a set of geographic data and be able to explain and understand what the
data represents and be able to then interpret what could a possible outcome of such event in the
future. To be able to successfully do this, a student must excel in understanding the 11 major
climate types of the world and how it affects the major landform types of the world.
I chose my artifact from the assignment Discussion 4 because I believed that I was able to
show good analysis and explanation of the weather pattern in Hereford, Texas through the data
from Weather.com. In the assignment, I was able to explain why Hereford will be experiencing
thunderstorms due to them experiencing a high amount of rainfall which then causes the air
around to be moist and unstable. After describing the situation with the rainfall and thus the
possible air behavior around, I explained the cause of thunderstorms and how the current
situation of air behavior in Hereford will cause it to have sporadic thunderstorms. Because
thunderstorms are caused by moisture, unstable air, and lift,So a possible cause of the
thunderstorms at the current moment is the humidity from the month of rain. I felt that this has
demonstrated my scientific literacy in that I was able to effectively and creatively analyze the
given geography data and patterns. Dr. Rhea Presiado gave me a perfect score on the assignment

and it boosted my confidence in that I am able to look at the data given and interpret it in
geographical terms and predict the future pattern. However, I understand my predictions are not
correct as there are limits to prediction based upon the current given data.
A way that my knowledge or skills have grown or developed as a result of creating or
completing my artifact is that I am able to understand why certain weather patterns occur at an
area and be able to interpret future patterns myself rather than just relying on online sources. Ive
noticed that Ive begun to analyze the weather and temperature of cities based off of their climate
and previous weather patterns. My knowledge of understand general geographical data has
greatly increase in the sense that I am now able to look at meteorological geographic data and
understand the areas weather and understand the limitations of the land.
