Introduction

PowerPoint- Using this technology tool, I can provide a slideshow presentation on the
topic using big pictures and words that are easy for students to follow to gain interest
early on in the lesson.
YouTube- (https://www.youtube.com) I think this technology is better because you can
show your students various things in fun but educational videos.
PBS Learning Media- (http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/) Using this website will help
students get interested into the topic through various activities and be more engaged
rather than just the teacher lecturing.
Wordle- (http://www.wordle.net/) This technology is good to use because you can import
certain words then they will mix together in a word cloud which students can use and
remember things better.
Flickr- (https://www.flickr.com/) This website offers lots of pictures that
students/teachers can use for projects, and class discussions. You can pull those pictures
up large on the smartboard.
PDF- This is useful because you can create a document then save it as a PDF file to print
and hand to your students.
Brain Pop Jr-(https://jr.brainpop.com/science/plants/partsofaplant/picturemaker/) This
website has several different things that will benefit your students using this technology
tool such as videos, games, and lesson plans.
Kahoot- (https://getkahoot.com/) I think this technology tool is effective because it has
several ways to use it such as assessments, quizzes, introduce new topics and others.

Objectives: Observe and compare the structures and behaviors of different kinds of plants (and
animals).
Anticipatory Set: This is where I will get my students interested about the upcoming learning
experience. I can first ask my students about if they have ever grown plants with their parents at
home and what they already know about plants to get their minds going. Then, I will provide a
PowerPoint presentation about the parts of the plants and the jobs those do. This PowerPoint has
words and pictures that my kindergartners can easily follow and relate to. I will then use
YouTube to play song(s) that say the needs of a plant (https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=dUBIQ1fTRzI).
Modeled Practice: I will first use PBS Learning Media to show a video called, From Seed to
Fruit (http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/evscps.sci.life.seedint/from-seed-to-fruitinteractive/) which takes children through different stages of growth in the life of a cherry tomato
plant. I will then want them to construct their own plants for hands on experience. During this
activity, students will prepare the growing environments for their seeds, plant them, water them,
and watch them grow. I will tell them how we can observe them as they grow just like the video
showed throughout the weeks.

Checking for Understanding: Using Wordle, this as a formative assessment to ask my students
as a class if they know different words that explain what a plant is. This would be a good way to
introduce new words to them and I would even print that word cloud out for each student. This is
an effective tool because it helps students gather thoughts about a certain topic in one spot and
could help them visualize those words when they are trying to remember something.
Guided Practice: I will use Flickr on the smart board where we can look at different pictures of
plants and see if students can name the parts/structures and what they do. I will include all the
students to make sure they are in with the class discussion and practicing recognizing these
things.
Independent Practice: I created a PDF file called, Parts of the Plant Activity Sheet. This has
an illustration of a plant and all the parts that they learned and at the bottom they cut out the
words and glue them on the correct line. They can also color the picture.
Closure: For the closure activity, I will use the website Brain Pop Jr. The website I found has
several games such as students drag the different parts to create their own plant on a background.
This is just a wrap up activity that again shows the parts of the plant.
Assessment: At the end of all this, then I will provide a Kahoot quiz
(https://create.kahoot.it/#quiz/193f12ef-44cc-45a6-8fbe-0385f2099671/done) for my students for
us to do in the class so I can observe and see if every student is succeeding. Questions such as,
What part is the arrow pointing too, or What job do the roots have and so on.
Word: Letter sent home explaining the current lesson
Powerpoint: Parts of a Plant Use in anticipatory set.
Excel: Gradebook
PDF: Parts of a Plant Activity Sheet
