Lesson Procedure:
a) Introduction
a. Students will come into the classroom and sit in their
assigned music rows. We will sing the Hello song and
Warm-up with back bone up, reminding them to sit straight
and tall and use their level 3 singing voices.
b) Procedures
a. I will instruct the kids to just sit and listen to the song while
I play it on the CD. After listening to it once I will be
teaching them the opening verse and the main chorus
section of Jailhouse Rock. We will start at the very
beginning of the song with The Warden threw a party in
the county jail. After breaking up the opening verse into
smaller sections, I will have the students repeat the words
in rhythm after me. After chanting each smaller section the
students will then chant the opening verse in its entirety
with. Once they have chanted the entire opening verse we
will sing each smaller section then sing the entire verse
once we have sung each section. We will do the same with
the chorus of jailhouse rock as well. Once they have
learned the opening verse and the chorus they will sing
through the entire song with the piano and me. We will skip
over the parts they have yet to learn.
b. If students cant seem to focus or have a hard time keeping
the beat I will pass around sand blocks or rhythm sticks
and give them patterns to play while we sing. If I use
instruments we will run certain sections of a song over and
over again so all the students can get a turn playing the
instrument and singing. The instruments are meant to help
the students keep the beat and to give them another
aspect they need to focus on.

c) Transitions
a. Before we start learning the song I will let them know that
during this class they will just be learning the very
beginning and the chorus. Before singing it with the CD I
will remind them what good singing posture looks like and
ask them to show me on their fingers what level voice they
should be using when they are singing.
d) Closure
a. After learning the opening verse and the chorus I will play
the CD again. The students will be instructed to sing the
parts that they know along with the CD while I play the
piano and sing along with them. When we come across a
part they have not learned yet I will ask them to just listen
to the words. We will sing the song all the way through with
the CD twice.
Accommodation: If students are having a hard time learning the
words or the notes I can spend more time on teaching them that rather
then just moving through my lesson. If I think instruments will further
help them with the beat of the song I will also have them play with
instruments that I choose. One of our first graders has Cochlear
implants so I need to wear a microphone when I teach so he can hear
me better over all the other noise.
Assessment: (Observational) My assessment during this lesson will be
based on how well they are learning the words and notes. I will also be
assessing them on their singing voices and how well they are able to
sing along with the CD and me.
