Reflection #7

Saadia Ahmed
The observation today was focused on transitions. There were
three classes involved in Halloween themed stations between recess
and lunch. Every station was twenty minutes long. Charn was looking
for smooth transitions between the stations and how I can complete
tasks while keeping track of the time. Overall, transitions ran smoothly
between stations. I wanted to create a station where students could
have fun and be engaged. The other two stations involved crafts and
bingo so I thought to incorporate something different and decided on a
drama theme. We also talked about my engagement in the activity and
how students were also showing enthusiasm. They were engaged and
most of them wanted to participate. For students that were confused, I
tried to make sure to have a few prompts in mind ready to help them
through the scenario. Charn also suggested that because I had laid out
the rules in the beginning about a good audience, I shouldve
reinforced it throughout the activity instead of continuously trying to
manage a few students.
I felt that the activity went well because the students were
having fun and participating well. I understood it was a day that they
would be excited and want to have fun so I didn't want them to sit
silently but I also didn't want them to call out anything. I understand
now that I could have gone over what types of comments would be
acceptable and what should be kept to themselves. Charn had
mentioned that my wait time and expectations of reminders had
improved between the first group of students and the last group of
students, which showed growth. This aligns with what I was thinking
because after every group of students I was thinking of what did and
didn't work and then modified it for the next group.
This reflects on Goal 8: The development of the ability to create
opportunities for learning: That access and engage students' ability to
think and learn through their minds, bodies, and hearts. Students
were able to think of the different scenarios and then show what they
were thinking through their bodies. The activity also considered the
characters, place, plot (scenario) and actions (focus). Therefore,
although it was a fun Halloween activity, it was a part of the
curriculum. This would also align with Goal eight, but would be specific

to the sub-point, That are consistent with learning objectives and the
principles of learning described in provincial integrated resource
packages.
