Maseches Shabbos begins by discussing the rules of "carrying", and the Rishon
im discuss the reason for this. The Maharal explains that because the melacha of
"carrying" does not apply on Yom Tov, therefore the Tana began by discussing it
, since it is unique to Shabbos. The rationale behind the words of the Maharal i
s that the primary revelation of the essence of every holiday is specifically in
the attribute which is unique to it alone. One of the special attributes applic
able to Hanukah is that it was the last of the holidays established for all gene
rations. The deeper understanding of this is that the establishment of the holid
ay of Hanukah completed the essence of the entire sequence of holidays until the
end of days. "Then I will complete, by singing psalms, the dedication of the al
tar". The dedication of the altar of "then" will be the completion of the dedic
ation of the House of the Hasmoneans. That is to say, until the establishment of
the holiday of Hanukah, there was missing foundation stone upon which would be
built the bridge leading to the end of days. With the establishment of Hanukah,
the correct path [was laid] to tread upon until the completion of the future ded
ication, that will be completed with the singing of psalms. Certainly, the subst
ance of these matters demands explanation, but the course of the analysis is lai
d out in the following.
