Warm Up:
Vocabulary review from active board
Opening/Activating Strategy/Mini Lesson:
Students will look through the previous days reading and
record in their journals examples of compound, complex, and
compound-complex sentences. Students will also include
examples of figurative language that could be found. Students
will then choose one of the examples they found to explain
how the author used it to improve the reading experience.
Work Session/Student-centered practice:
Students will be separated into groups for the week. Each
group will rotate through four centers, completing one center
per day.
Centers:
Reading/milestones practice- SWBAT read passages and
complete comprehension and language skills questions
Novel Reading- SWBAT read assigned chapters from the
novel. Upon completion of the reading students will then be
able to complete a comprehension assessment.
Art/Culture- Students will watch a short video on Kamishibai,
paper story telling. After watching the video students will
create their own creative story using the process of
Kamishibai. They will illustrate the story on cards (at least
five) and then write sentences to describe the events of their
story. Students will then take pictures of their cards using
chrome books and create video story.
Authors Purpose- Students will play a game to
introduce/review the idea of authors purpose. Students can
play individually or with a partner. Students will then be given
a purpose for writing (entertain, inform, persuade) and a
choice of topics from which to choose for their writing.
As students complete work in their center they will begin work
on an extension activity or read for Book Adventure.
