Reflection
This assignment was actually very challenging. The story of my literacy vignettes arent
something that necessarily come to mind very often. When the topic was approached, I didnt
think it would be too difficult. Although we were allowed to speak from our own personal
experiences, there was a lot of critical thinking brought into this paper. One thing that was
extremely helpful in this assignment were the discussions in class. I enjoyed hearing other
peoples literacy experiences as well as sharing my own. It helped broaden my view of things
and get me on the right track with my writing.
Once I began the writing process I felt stumped. Sure, the topics I had listed were big
parts of my life and affected my writing at the time, but how was it affecting me now? I think
this is what I struggled with the most. Its seemingly easy to reflect back on how you felt at the
time of your experience, but much more difficult to explain the ways you continue to be affected
by one simple thing that happened many years ago. Being able to revise helped a lot in this area
because I was getting feedback about the strengths and weaknesses of my paper.
The revision process is normally something I dont do very well with, but this time
around it seemed to be a lot simpler. Normally when revising, my teacher hands me back a paper
with marks and side notes all over it. Nothing is discussed and Im left to figure things out on my
own. With the revision for this assignment, I not only had my peers look at my paper, but I got to
look at theirs! This gave me tons of ideas to see where other people were coming from and get a
new perspective on how to mold my paper.

Overall I think I learned a lot from this assignment. I was taught how to radically revise,
as well as how to look at my writing style from a different view point. I have found the ways my
writing has been changed over my lifetime and figured out how to make even the bad
experiences turn into something good. My writing is a reflection of who I am as a person and this
assignment definitely helped me realize that.
