Module Title: Finance 1030 (FIN1030) Accounting Cycle 2

Lesson 1:

Module Description: Students complete the accounting cycle for a


service business, preparing financial statements and closing
accounts. They also will explore other factors of a business,
including budgets.

Students will complete Chapter 5 - Exercise 7 (in Principles of Accounting Third edition)

Students will complete Chapter 5 - Exercise 8 (in textbook)

If a student struggles with the exercises, offer them a choice to fix their mistakes and write notes as to where they made
mistakes. If multiple students are struggling, re-teach the area of concern and allow students to try again.

Introduce budget and budgeting for small business

Work through sample budgets and decision making that stems from the budgets

Allow students to work on budgeting exercise (Chapter 13 Exercise 26 (in textbook)) in groups of 2-3. Emphasize the need for each
group to make educated decisions from the budget. Each group will present briefly their decisions and rationale.
Lesson 16: (1.1,1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7)

Introduction to the review via Chapter 6 Exercise 17 (in textbook)

Start review for culminating task.

Go over the major concepts from the course including the posting of entries, preparation of a complete worksheet, journalizing and
posting the adjusting and closing entries and the post-closing trial balance.

Have an array of exercises that the students can complete from the textbook.

Continue review from previous lesson including having the students take part in a Practice Culmination Task
