PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

The Purpose of Education

Children are our future and with proper knowledge and understanding they can do
whatever they set themselves to do. Education's primary purpose has ranged from instructing
youth in religious doctrine, to preparing them to live in a democracy, to assimilating immigrants
into mainstream society, to preparing workers for the industrialized 20th century workplace.
(M. Sloan) With the help of well-educated teachers and parents students can reach and over come
any goals presented to them. Teachers are more then just educators but live changers. The
knowledge students receive in school helps them solve real life problem out side of school.
Which can change their way of communicating with others in the community. The main purpose
of education is for students to reach their full learning potentials. Creating civilized citizens in
the community. Bettering our communities with the knowledge that they have learned. The more
education received, the better life changing choices students are to make, helping them have a
better life stile.
Learning Environment
The learning environment as well as the academic knowledge being thought is important
to students education. Environments have both a direct and indirect influence on student
learning, including their engagement in what is being taught, their motivation to learn, and their
sense of well-being, belonging, and personal safety(Abbott ). A well organized and colorfully
classroom can help students express and improve there learning. In order to be good teachers we
need to be understanding and patient. Increasing the motivation in students to want to learn.
Providing engaging adventure for learning helps students be more open-minded to trying new
things. Also offering an interactive classroom where students can express themselves. As a future
educator I feel that in my classroom I would post students work all throw-out the room. Showing

that their work is special and important. My students would feel comfortable to ask questions and
have there questions answered to the beat of my ability. Group work would be important to
create social communication between student and me the teacher. Would approach everything
with an open mind and see the different points of views of all my students. Provide multiple fun
hands on activities and individual work to help express there different areas of learning. Over all
a safe welcoming place to learn and discover whom we are.
Commitment to Social Justice
As educators it is our duty to provide all students the right to an equal education. To
insure that everyone had a voice of their own and that it can be heard. We all come from different
backgrounds in life, but all deserve the same rights and opportunities to educate once self in
order to have a better life. For a community to better its self everyone in the community needs to
work and help each other. Teachers need to work closely with both students and parents to reach
the potential goals of every student. Educators need to be willing to give it all they have to make
sure that their students are being thought to the fullest power of the teacher. Using any resources
need to help the student succeed. Parent need to also be willing to give it all they have to make
sure that there children are doing there best and resaving as much help as they can in the home as
they do in the school setting. Both teachers and district need to be on the same page when it
comes to the education of students. They need to work closely to approve of the programs being
offered or canceled. Over all deciding what is the best outcome for the students. Such as Summer
school, After School Programs, Tutoring, Field Trips and extra learning activity with in the
schools. "The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who
have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little."
Franklin D. Roosevelt

Curriculum
Over that last few years the way of educating had changed dramatically for the best. It no
longer is about standing in front of students and telling them what they need to know and have
them memorize. Now with the Common Core Standards it is more about why things are the way
they are. Inquiry is the way of learning. Using supporting details to backup your response.
Compare and contract to come up with the best answer and analyzing word choice. With these
new Common Core Standards students can learn to discover and become interested in what they
are learning rather than just pretending to care about learning. This new way constructs a better
way for students to learn at the same level. With this standards in place students can move
without warring about if there education in the new school would be behind or ahead of the
other, because they would all be working at the same standers speed. Working all together as if
they were one huge school of education. Students should be able to learn new things every day.
All subjects need to be lectured and have hands on activities were student could teach themselves
and others. Therefore making it easier to apply there learning to real life situations.
Teachers
The job of a teacher is underestimated. Many believe teachers learn the basic of every
subject and then just teach students the same. They do not see the hard work it takes to plan
every lesson and execute it properly. Being a teacher is more than just remembering main details
of every subject but much more. A good teacher teaches to his or her students speed and
strengths. Sets high expectations for all students. Objectives are clearly written out and
explained. Always prepared, and organized for every class and welling to change any steps, to
accommodate the needed of the students. There are those who contend that the curriculum
includes not only the planned, but also the unplanned experiences as well. (EbertII,) Willing to

be open minded and listens to every point of view. Have strong relations with students to show
that they matters. Willing to have frequent communication with parents to provide
accommodations for students needs and progress. Teachers must be masters of their subject
matter. Always provide a creative environment and overall welcoming to all students.
