I just want to say thank you for having me for ENG-111 this semester. This is my first
semester of college and this class helped alleviate some of the anxieties about college over
the course of the semester.
For my This I Believe essay, the context included a story about my experiences dealing
with my impatience as a youth, how I overcame it, and what I learned from my experiences. The
audience of this essay was you (being the teacher), as well as some family members whom I shared
the story with. The purpose of this paper was to share what I strongly believed in. With this
assignment, I was trying to accomplish the goal of being able to look back at myself and my own
flaws, accept them, and be able to write about it in a paper. After revising my essay, the outcome
was remarkable. My essay flowed better and also the grammatical errors were corrected.
Secondly for my descriptive essay, the context was a story I made up about a young man
who was addicted to money which caused many faults in his relationships. Once he accepted his
addiction and fully realized what he had lossed, he no longer allowed himself to be a slave to the
money. The audience was the general readers including you. Its purpose was to entertain readers
and possibly bring attention to the seriousness of having a money addiction. With this paper, I
wanted to achieve being able to write a full story, while being bound to the guidelines of the
assignment. After the revisions, my essay flowed better due to the grammatical corrections. Also I
included some of the elements that I was missing.
Finally, my research essay. The context included information about the Bob Marley song
Redemption Song and the meanings. The audience included me and you. The purpose of the
paper was to enlighten myself on the history of the song and find out its literal meaning. With this
paper, I wanted to achieve getting a better understanding on what the song meant, including other
opinions on the song as well. The essay evolved through its revisions because it helped make the
essay flow better.
Personally, I feel like my effort and participation in this class had been outstanding. I only
have one absence and I also completed all assignments and extra credit work associated with this
course.
The assignments that I found the most interesting were the descriptive essay and the
research essay. Reason being is because the descriptive essay challenged my skills as a writer and
forced me to be more creative and choose my words wisely. The research essay was interesting to
me because I learned more about one of my favorite reggae artists. I found it difficult because the
research process and deciding on what song to analyze was difficult. Over the course of the
semester, I truly feel my writing skills have improved tremendously since I began to use better
vocabulary and I became a better descriptive writer.
