Utah Arts Alliance Program Descriptions

1) SLC Arts Hub: The UAA (Utah Arts Alliance) Headquarters is located at 633 W 100 S in Salt
Lake City. We receive approximately 34,000 people a year at our dance, performance, studio,
and office spaces. We open these spaces to artists, dancers, performers, nonprofit groups, and a
variety of community art organizations and events. Our goal at Arts Hub is to encourage and
facilitate growth across all art mediums. We are able to do this by providing an affordable facility
that accommodates a variety of programs, classes, workshops, and events. All proceeds are used
to subsidize the expenses of UAA and expenses of over two dozen other local arts and cultural
organizations.
2) Urban Arts Gallery: The UAG is conveniently located at the Gateway Center in downtown
Salt Lake City. The hours of operation are 12:00 PM 8:00 PM Tuesday Sunday. Diverse
programs are offered to make art easily accessible to the public. Over 33,600 people visit our
facilities, with over 170 Utah-based artists being showcased each year. Our purpose is to provide
a platform for emerging and underrepresented local artists to showcase and sell their work to the
public. We strive to continue being Utahs most frequented gallery while continuing to improve
the quality of work featured in the gallery. All proceeds will be used to support the gallery,
employ staff, and offer programs. The programs offered include writing groups, live
performances, community workshops, and more.
3) Midnight Records: With state-of-the-art facilities, and a goal to share local talent with the
world, Midnight Records is the local musicians gateway to the world. Midnight Records is
housed in Counterpoint Studios, conveniently located at 2335 South West Temple. These
facilities give Utah musicians affordable access to high quality equipment, marketing services,
and distribution options. When applicable, these services are donated to low-income artists.
Resources received for this program are used to cover the costs of these donated services.
4) Community Art Garden: This is a one-of-a-kind community garden and outdoor event venue
located next to the Salt Lake City Arts Hub. We transformed the space from a forgotten, empty
lot full of biohazards (such as used hypodermic needles), empty glass bottles, and weeds into a
beautiful urban oasis. The Art Garden now has stunning murals, an outdoor gallery, a sculpture
garden, planter boxes full of native plants, an outdoor performance space, and a community
gathering space. The purpose of the Art Garden is to provide an outdoor space available for
community and art events. We plan to expand the use of the Art Garden for workshops, concerts,
poetry reading, yoga, and other art and education centered community events. All proceeds will
be used to support the upkeep and offered programs of the Art Garden.
5) Shared Resources Program: An affordable way to provide optimizing service to artist who
may lack financial resource to establish programs within their own funding. This will be
achieved by making a goal to subsidize facility rentals at the UAA venues. With more than 30

partners, we are able to give affordable access to our shared facilities and offer more education
and programming in many different art forms. To expand the program to serve more artists and
organizations in the following year, the funds will cover operating expenses related to the shared
resources program.
6) Urban Arts Festival: Utahs largest free art event draws over 40,000 in attendance. By giving
contemporary and urban artists an opportunity and venue to showcase their work, there is a wide
variety of art. This allows the community to appreciate the newest and significant art to date.
Having been a successful festival in the past, this year we hope to increase attendance to 50,000
people. This will be done by moving the festival to the Gallivan Center and adding an additional
day to the festival. The resources received will be used to cover operating expenses, and ensure
that this event will remain open at no cost to the community.
7) Connect: Connect is a free monthly community arts program that annually serves over 170
artists and 2300 community attendees. The program connects artists to allow opportunities
showcases and connections in the art community. Artists from all skill levels can bring up to
three pieces of art to each Connect event. Once they choose their art pieces for display, the
pieces are then displayed for the public to vote based on favorites. The winners from the
monthly Connect event are invited back to compete for the December Connect Gala which will
award $2000 prizes to the top three winners. By attending Connect, artists can experience
wisdom and expertise through special guest speakers, other artists, and art professionals. Funds
throughout Connect will help support efforts in assisting for supplies and staffing.
8) Young Arts Education: Focusing on the youth, we aid to help organize and provide art
programs for children 5-12. While partnering with other art camps, the we successfully serviced
over 50 kids last year. This year, we are excited to reveal two collaborative summer camps that
will focus on music with Salty Cricket and and dance with Samba Fogo. In addition, there are
other programs worth mentioning such as the SLC Arts Hub and the kids arts and craft activities,
which can be found at the Urban Arts Festival.
9) Arts Radio: Arts Radio 99.5 FM KUAA will be the first art centric radio station featured in the
Salt Lake Valley provided by the FCC. The radio station offers art-related programming such as
art news, critique, poetry, humanities, music, and more. Funds for the Arts Radio include an
requested instrumental, transmitter purchasing, and other startup costs.
