The playground that I observed was at Valley Creek Elementary School in McKinney, Texas. This park
is right outside of the elementary school and was very active after school today. What I found was that this park
did not have a lot of the different aspects that the make a park interactive and help aid in cognitive and social
development. It was, however, very safe and was made of materials that would put parents minds at ease about
playing at the park. There was plenty of space for running and playing and was constructed very securely. As I
was driving home, I saw that on the other side of the school, roughly a few football fields, was another park that
had different aspects to it. I was not able to stop, but these two parks combined had more of what would make
an exceptional park. If they were constructed closer together it would make it a much better environment for
development and social interactions. It is in a nice neighborhood, but I would put up more lights and a fence for
security. I did not realize that so much different thoughts go into creating a park, but if a park contains all of
those components it would be a really great place for children to play and grow.
