Reflective Statement History Social-Science

In the near future, my journey to teach history-social science means I
will be well equipped with the necessary knowledge about U.S and World
History. I would also have to know the different subjects that reflect in History
as well as Social Science disciplines such as Geography, Political science, and
English Language content. My experience would serve as a tool to help
students understand how to conduct historical research by obtaining
information, developing group interaction skills and developing social and
political participation skills. At the end of my teaching I would like my
students to have a better understanding and be able to retrieve historical
data, analyze information by using computers, and electronic media. They
would also be able to read and interpret maps, globes, models and diagrams.
Also, although I incorporated Political Science as one of my History class
taken, I still find it difficult to remember certain historical names, date and
time events I learned in my class. They seem to escape my memory
sometimes but I am constantly working on retaining those useful teachings I
learned in my political class.
My history classes were a great time for me in school. I have gained so
much knowledge by enrolling in HIS 101, HIS 301, ANT 102, GEO 350 and
LBS375. I also gained new information about other countries while learning
their geographical areas, similarities and environmental interactions.
America i believe is full of different cultural groups, so having knowledge
about other groups would also help my students to adapt and live freely in a

multicultural country. My LBS 375 class has given me the necessary tools
needed to comprehend how to teach history to my future students. My
teacher gave us directions by showing us how to read various forms of
literature and primary and secondary source materials. We were able to
compare and contrast the locations of people, places and environments and
describing their characteristics.
My artifacts that am using to showcase my knowledge, is on my journal
entry about Cesar Chavez. The journal entry required me to read various
articles, books and research about Chavez and writing down my reflections,
while following the Common Core State Standards. My artifact aims to show
my understanding of a historical icon and its symbolism it has left in history.
This experience connects to the Grade 3, 4, and 5 standards. It also shows
my potential in retrieving and analyzing information that deals with
economic, sociopolitical and geographic literacy. My journal strategy included
some of the following, such as evidence, examples, detailed material and an
outline. It would be a wonderful experience to help my students in the future
and I am very optimistic that my student would find it informative and
exciting as learning history has helped them to broaden their minds.
