1. The Role of Violent Media Preference in Cumulative Developmental Risk for

Violence and General Aggression by Paul Boxer, L. Rowell Huesmann, Brad
Bushman, Maureen OBrien and Dominic Moceri argues that violence is being
promoted in media like games and movies. Although this particular event
represents and extreme example of how violence in the media can promote
violence in real life, it is wholly consistent with the fact that for decades,
exposure to violent media has been acknowledged as a risk factor for aggressive
and violent behavior. (Anderson 1) The authors of this article are using this
thesis to gain credibility by using a well educated man that is a general surgeon.
The authors are using ethos by using a credible person that has past knowledge of
different evens occurring such as a story described in the article. The article has
the possibility of being biased due to the fact that there are multiple authors and
even one can be biased towards the subject. The authors believe that any type of
social media or just regular media can influence people to do things they see a
fictional character is doing. I completely agree with the argument said in the
article. In our society, there are more and more young people getting access to
adult rated content and once they gain different graphics through mature rated
subjects, then young people are more influenced by mature content.

2. Does Media Violence Cause Violent Crime? by Sarah M. Coyne talks about
how media does not promote violence. The authors argues that media does not
have any influence over violence in society. Giving different simple but logical
and complex arguments helps the readers understand how the argument is being
portrayed makes the rhetorical devise used in this article logos. It is also
important to note that violent crime existed many years before television was
introduced(Coyne 2007) This is just one of many logical examples used in the
article that make people realize the argument the author is making. She is making
the point that even back in the day where social media wasnt as present in our
daily lives, as it is today, that there was still the same amount of violence. This
article can be biased as well due to the authors logic and logic can be different
for everyone. Some people may agree with her and may partially agree due to the
fact that some of her sources are not strong meaning the people are not completely
credible. This article states some of the obvious but it does make a simple valid
point, that media does not promote violence.
3. Violent Media Numbs Viewers to Pain of Others by Diane Swanbrow
advocated that violence in media does not necessarily promote violence but it
creates a numbing feeling of not realizing that there is something wrong. For
example, Swanbrow says, Violent media also affects someones willingness
to offer to help to an injured person The feeling of not feeling guilty or the
need to help is not realized anymore in dangerous situations. The University of
Michigans professor Brad Bushman and Iowa State University professor Craig
Anderson are used in this article and it helps with the credibility of it. The article
is not biased because it is showing actual studies and statistics. I do agree with

what the author is trying to say because it relates to real lives everywhere and we
see it in the news and media. Different lives put into danger from different people
all caused by either harmful social media or televised media.
