The Riverside and North Riverside Police Departments partnered to purchase a high-tech traffic enforcement trailer to be used for traffic safety operations in both communities. The $12,000 trailer is equipped with cones, barricades, signs, lighting, storage and radio equipment to aid in DUI checkpoints, crash investigations, and large public events. By sharing the cost, the partnership allows each department to have up-to-date equipment without expending village funds.

Partnership Increases Traffic Safety for Both Villages
Riverside Police Department and North Riverside Police Department recently partnered to purchase a high-tech traffic enforcement trailer that can be used by both communities for combined or separate operations. The vehicle is intended to be used for DUI sobriety checkpoints, major traffic crash investigations, traffic control at large public events, and any other police or emergency operation that would require the police department to deploy large pieces of equipment at a public scene. The trailer is equipped with items for traffic: cones, barricades, directional signs and safety equipment for officers to wear on specific scenes. The trailer is also equipped with lighting, storage and radio transmission equipment. Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel said that the partnership allows each police department to have state of the art equipment at a shared cost with a benefit to each village. The trailer was purchased for $12,000 using funds collected through DUI and traffic conviction fines and grant dollars. No village funds were expended. North Riverside Police Chief Lane Niemann stated that as villages face financial challenges, police departments can continue to enhance their existing partnerships by sharing expenses and maintaining new technology, equipment and special purpose vehicles. All Riverside and North Riverside police officers were trained in the use of the equipment and its operations.
