Teaching/Learning Strategies

How? / Comments

Checks understanding of important

concepts and clarifies where necessary.

Mouza provided mini grammar summaries for students to

refer to as they were doing the revision tasks. She moved
around the room while students were working offering
guidance where needed. She checked their responses in some
cases.

Provides opportunity for meaningful

language development to take place.

Mouza provided large copies with the grammar rules and

example sentences. They were also familiar enough with the
learning resources to be able to use them without problem.
The activities were mostly pitched at the correct level
challenging yet within the capabilities of these learners.

Communicates clearly and at an

appropriate level.

Mouza spoke clearly and students seemed to be able to

understand her OK.

Selects material appropriate for the

students and their level.

The activities were at an appropriate level for most of these

students. Mouza had quite a strong focus on mistakes that
students often make at this level which was good.

Observation Report 201415

Uses a variety of learning strategies, ie

groupwork, pairwork etc.

Groups

Uses classroom equipment (board,

A/V, comp., etc) effectively.

Photocopies, iPad, timer, various online practice tasks on

various apps and Google forms
Students seemed to find it quite straightforward to access the
exercises which shows that they regularly use a variety of
apps and resources in their learning with Mouza.

Responds effectively to questions &

comments.

Students seemed satisfied with the answers Mouza gave

them. They found her approachable.

Good rapport & classroom control.

Mouza provided praise readily. Students seemed keen to

complete the activities. Mouza monitored constantly
providing guidance where necessary. Students seemed to feel
relaxed with Mouza and responded well to her.

Uses class time effectively, i.e. pace

and timing.

Mouza gave timings for each task. She also gave them verbal
reminders of the time still left to encourage them to finish.
Timings seemed to be appropriate although they did not all
finish the activities at the same time. By the end students
were finishing ahead of time

Observation Report 201415

Mouza started the lesson by taking the register. Then she

explained what they were going to do in the lesson. She gave
an example of the first task to demonstrate what ss had to do.
Students had 10 minutes to complete one task in.
Arranging the groups to work on a different task at the same
time with a time limit, gave the students a clear idea of what
was expected of them and also meant the activities were
broken up into smaller chunks which is something they
responded positively to.
It was good to see the group in the centre working together to
create their sentences and discussing the best way to do this
correctly. Other groups did the same.
After 10 minutes each group moved to the next table to start
a new activity.
Mouza when you checked the students work that they had
submitted, how much had they completed and how successful
were they? What kind of feedback did students get/need
later?
Some students reported that they enjoyed this kind of
activity, especially when they have to move around the room
as they like to be active.
At the end of the class, Mouza explained what students would
be doing in the following class.
Most of this lesson involved students working in groups while
Mouza monitored. She did address the class as a whole a
couple of times and should make sure she has the attention of
all students when she does this.
There was no LBD in the lesson as far as I could see although
Mouza did mention an activity that would follow in the next
3

lesson that had a strong LBD element. So Mouza should focus

on what objectives she can achieve within the 50 minute
lesson when planning.
Overall, this was a very student-centred lesson and these
learners seemed to enjoy this approach. Working in groups
was particularly effective as the students discussed their
answers and how to correct their mistakes. Mouza achieved
the aims of getting students to review and practice grammar.
Students seemed well on task for most of the lesson and it
was clear they were learning.
Well done Mouza this is your first observation with your
Chair and you have done extremely well. Thank you for having
me in your lesson.

Observees reflections on the lesson: (eg What I liked . What Id do differently.)

Mouza when you checked the students work that they had submitted, how much had they
completed and how successful were they? What kind of feedback did students get/need later?
There were four activities in the classrooms. The students were supposed to do the activity and
call their teacher after completing it. Two of the activities were giving immediately feedbacks, the
learners were able to see the sores and recognize their mistakes, which were the bookwidgets
task and Bb learn quiz. However, the other two activities were google form and a worksheet in
the box account. These two activities need to be checked by me, so in the instructions of the
activity it was written to call the teacher so I can gave them feedback during that time. The
worksheet activity required the students to download the worksheet and open the task in pages
app, then answer the questions and call the teacher to check their answers. The teacher will give
them feedback right away. Moreover, the students will upload the answers to the box account.
But the google form activity, the students were required to complete the task and call the teacher
before submitting the activity. The teacher will see the answers and will give the learners
feedback, then they can submit the answers. Furthermore, later I can see the answers of the
google form responses and the worksheets in the box account. Overall, I think during that lesson

Observation Report 201415

my students were aware of their mistakes and realize that particular area of grammar that they
need to work on more.
My reflection about this lesson. I think that the lesson was successful, it was student-centered
lesson. The lesson objectives were achieved, which was getting learners to review the grammar
topics for their coming exam. The students were working on the task. The four activities were
completed on time in group, the learners were collaborative and helping each others to
understand the grammar topics. The instructions of the activities were written clearly and students
were able to understand what they have to do. At the end the students were required to create an
iMove about the four grammar topics and submit it to the teacher. I believe that this activity was a
good way to enhance the leaner to remember the grammar rules and be prepared for the exam.
Moreover, the teacher can see each students production after this lesson.
