Science vs. Christianity
Science against Christ: it is a hard battle that is always being fought across the world, and
as someone studying physics Im often asked how I find a balance between the two. I believe I
have found my answer to that question. Have you?
God against the studies and findings of science are constantly changing because we are
always finding something new to add to the puzzle. Is God the creator of all the things around us
though? This can be answered with both science and Christian thinking, the answer is yes.
Science and Christianity are a lot alike in many aspects, science is looking for a greater
understanding of how and why the earth came to be and Christians have the word of God as their
guidelines to how they should live. As a non-believer that Christ can fit into this equation you
should look at it from the science side into the Christian side. When you look outside and see the
trees and the birds you might occasionally think to yourself; who created this? With that question
you can delve ever deeper into the thinking that comes from such a question. Why did the earth
form? Why are we the only inhabited planet that we know about so far? That is where the
scientific world comes in, they are trying to solve those age long problems. So far they have
come to the conclusion that the big bang created the universe in a very rapid state of expansion
as read from Robert John Russells Five Key Topics on the Frontier of Theology and Science
Today. Russell plays out the development of the cosmos and what is said in science as to how it

happened, but the question is why it happened. There had to be a divine hand in the development
that is too far out of the reach of human intellect.
The part that most non-believers usually then do is look in the bible and see the creation
stories in it. Wait! These dont match up with the big bang theory at all. How do you expect me
to believe this stuff? The truth is the creation stories are just that, stories. They are not actual
findings that someone saw with their own eyes, they were created in the minds of great story
tellers and they stuck. No one on this world can answer the question of why God created the
universe, why we are here or anything along those lines.
As far as from a non-believer stand point the presence of God cannot be found in
anything in science, or likewise in life itself. Non-believers accept all the truths of science and
look at the world in the light that there is nothing of a greater power to facilitate the needs of life
or evolution. That it just simply happened the way it is stated in science. What is life though
without the opinions of the human mind in the search for what is the right way of thinking. We
would all be hollow shells if we all just believed what we were told all the time and never
questioned existence in the light of something greater. Some non-believers dont believe simply
because they have never seen any works of something greater, others may think that God doesnt
exist because they have never received any works of mercy. Then last are the ones who have
never heard the teachings of Christ, so they have nothing to believe in.
When asked about my Christian faith in the light of science I can always answer with
confidence that God is real. Why? You may ask. It is because I look at the world and all the
things in it and I see the hand of God everywhere. In nature, animals, and most of all in other
people. We strive to find a way closer to the one who created us. That is why science was
developed in a nutshell. Someone looked at the stars at night and began to notice that things were

moving and everything was so real. Then things expanded to wanting to know how other living
things work, which is where God is found the most, nature. That is where many writers and
musicians go when they need to find peace and inspiration. Ludwig Van Beethoven used to find
inspiration the most when he was in the woods and he was a very devout Christian. Any
relationship here? I think so. If you go into nature and think about where all the things around
you came from your mind will eventually wander into thinking about a higher power beyond or
imagination.
That being is God. Life, death, why, how; all of these dilemmas are trying to be solved by
science. Understanding of all these dilemmas doubles when God is put in but it also opens up all
new questions as well many of which can only be answered in faith until you are able to ask
those questions before God, so I say again. Have you found your balance?
