MEMO

From: Alondra Gomez
Subject: Visual Argument Project Assessment Memo
Date: 12-5-15
Dear Instructor,
My decisions to why I chose the images, short clips, and audio for my visual argument project
can be found throughout this Memo; all directing to my community issue.
Throughout the organization of my Photo Story I was fortunate enough to not have to encounter
many problems. If there were any they had to be: difficulty setting up an adequate amount of
time for each image and figuring out how to add text without an image. I didnt want to bombard
the viewers with sentimental pictures accompanied by great deals of information.
The community problem of my choice is intended for the public, there is no specific audience.
My purpose is to inform everyone on a community issue that has been prevalent for decades. The
information might come to shock a few people but it is all intended for the general audience.
I came to select the topic of Injustices faced by women in Third World Countries because I am
a die-hard feminist. Aside from that, I never knew until this year that gender selective abortions
existed or that Female Genital Mutilation was still being practiced on thousands of young girls. It
is infuriating to know that many of the victims have no way of defending themselves, so I want
more people to become outraged by these facts in order for a movement against these practices to
come into action and end them once and for all.
The most challenging part of the project would have to be the organization of the different subtopics I mentioned in my Photo Story. My goal was to have good transitions that made the video
flow smoothly from one topic to another. There where many moments of doubt and reorganization, but with time I was able to organize all the information nicely. All I was trying to
avoid was jumping into another topic that had nothing to do with the previous one.
Regarding my systematic approach, it is very obvious that Pathos was utilized from the
beginning to end of my Photo Story. I was trying to reach the viewers emotionally, again, to
spark outrage and fury towards the dehumanizing practices towards women.
The short clips and melancholic audio have to be the most effective aspects of my Photo Story in
terms of presentation. The clips of female advocates served as reliable evidence. The
melancholic/arabic tune that was heard throughout the video was the song, Song of Complaint.
The designs where all chosen to emotionally impact the viewers. That was to be achieved with
slow transitions and background music and sentimental or shocking images.
Sincerely, Alondra Gomez
