Adult Initiated Turns


Operational Definitions of Adult Behavior
Eye Contact-The adult makes eye contact to initiate an interaction.
Gestures-The adult gestures in a way that lets the child know they want to interact.
Behavioral Response-The adult initiates an interaction in response to a childs behavior.
Vocalization-The adult speaks to the child or makes a sound to initiate an interaction.
Operational Definitions of Child Behavior
Eye Gaze-Child either makes direct eye contact or gazes in the direction of the adult player to
indicate a turn.
Gestures-Child intentionally moves their own body or guides an adult's body to indicate a turn.
Body Movement-Child makes a body movement (shaking, jumping, etc.) to indicate a turn.
Vocalization-Child vocalizes (yell, grunt, approximation, or full word) to indicate a turn.
No Response-The child does not respond to the adults initiated turn.
