Composition I

Creating my essay, I tried to focus on covering multiple points as neutral as
possible. I attempted to write on several points on how Rape Culture affects every type of
person. I even attempted to use gender-neutral terms by saying things like non-man
identified and not specifically identifying what type of person is completely affected by
rape culture more than another. I had a couple of strengths when writing this essay.
Specifically, I had an emotional connection to the topic. It is a topic that has severely
affected my friends and myself. There were also many references, reports, blogs, student
essays, and other resources I looked at to get an idea of where I could take the paper and
what evidence I could use to write the paper. A major strength I had was the WPA
outcomes also. I used critical thinking when evaluating what specific source would be
proper to use. Having those strengths did help on my paper, but I also struggled when
creating a flowing process.
When creating a process I had to have my paper revised many times before I even
turned in my first draft. Many of the paragraphs first read out of order and the point of
issues seemed as if it jumped around from topic to topic. Sources were also a struggle.
Even when I referred to the DK Handbook, I still struggled with properly citing my
sources correctly. I had to read it multiple times while having someone explain it to me
before I had a slight idea. The most difficult process to write in the paper was my
conclusion. The conclusion may be just a summary of the paper, but it also wraps up the
paper completely. It gives the reader something they can take with them after reading. I
always have trouble writing a conclusion. My conclusions either seem too incoherent or
summarize too much of my paper. I had to think a lot about the conclusion. I had to look
at many examples; some like and some not like my topic. The essay was certainly
interesting to write about and I enjoyed writing it despite the few struggles I had when
completing it.
