Question
Do ants prefer real or
artificial sugar?

Abstract
The purpose of the experiment was to find
out which ants like better real or artificial
sugar. The other purpose was for my dad
to stop eating so much sugar. He has eaten
more ever since the doctor said he had
diabetes.

Hypothesis
If both real and artificial sugar
is placed
within five feet away from an
ant hill
the ants will go to the real
sugar
because the nutrients in the

Materials
20 packets of artificial sugar
20 packets of real sugar
measuring tape (optional)
2 pieces of construction paper

Procedure
1. Gather materials
2. Place all materials outside five feet
away from ant hill.
3. Put real sugar on one piece of
construction paper and artificial sugar
on the other.
4. Wait 30 minutes for ants to come up to
the both sugars.
5. Record how many ants came up to the
ant hill and repeat.

Variables
Independent variable: Type of sugar
Dependent variables: The amount of ants
that came up to the two types of sugar.

Conclusion
My hypothesis was supported by my data,
the ants went mostly towards the real
sugar this probably happened since the
sugar was not as processed as the
artificial was.
