Question 1) Are children being prepared for the future, or raised correctly
these days?
Question 2) Is it possible that the lack of certain education by parents and
schools, be affecting children in a negative way?

Belkin, L. (2010). Preparing Kids for the Unknown, The New York Times.
Retrieved from http://parenting.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/10/19/preparingkids-for-the-unknown/?_r=0.\
The focus of this article is a big (what if?) scenario. It discusses the issues of

what if the future does not turn out the way we think it will. Another point it
emphasis is If the future does not go as we plan or expect, the ones to suffer are
going to be the children of today and tomorrow. In todays world, children are
being raised with the expectation that a higher education is needed to live a
better life. Although up to now it is true to some degree, but the article gives
ideas of what would be necessary in a different world. The Author emphasis that
in a different future, children would need the skills of survival and adaptation,
besides academic skills. I will use this source in the explanation that other types
of skills should also be in parents minds when raising their children.

Dr. Cuomo addressed one of the main problems in the United States, which is

obesity. She explains that the increase of processed foods, beverages containing
high amounts of sugar, and increase in portion sizes, have affected the nation in

a negative way. A place where it has a bigger impact is with children. She
stresses the importance of educating children on how to make healthy food
choices. She also informs us with some facts about how life expectancy is
decreasing in America, as well as some of the consequences that pour food
choices can lead to in the future. I am planning to use this source to inform that
lazy feeding by some parents and schools can influence more than just our
children.

Curtis, S. (2013). How technology is changing childhood. The Telegraph.

Retrieved from http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/10529785/Howtechnology-is-changing-childhood.html.
It is becoming less and less awkward seeing a 5 to 10 year old,
operating a tablet or smart phone. In a world were technology will soon be
king, we see many kids with certain devices that are capable of displaying
many things. In this article, Sophie Curtis talks about how technology has
affected children in a bad way, as well as how it would be possible to affect
them in a good way. She lays down some facts like the top Christmas list
gifts, tablets, and video games being at the top. She describes how children
are miss using technology, but she also talks on how children can use
technology to develop useful skills and knowledge, which is how it was
supposed to be used for in the first place. She finishes by clarifying that the
misuse of such a tool, is because of irresponsible parents. I will use this
source to explain that some children are using technology in wrongful ways,
due to the education parents are not addressing.

Goodman, M. (2012). Are We Raising a Generation of Helpless Kids? Huff Post

Parents. Retrieved from http://www.huffingtonpost.com/Mickey-goodman/arewe-raising-a-generati_b_1249706.html.
In this article, Mickey Goodman explains the negative effect that babying

children cause for them in the long run. It describes the way parents are doing
everything for their children, in order to make their lives easier. Little do they
know that instead of helping them, they are hurting them in a huge way. The
initial intentions of parents when doing their kids homework are thought to be
good, but in the end, it has a negative impact. The articles overall topic is about
how the obsession parents have of their childrens safety pull them down instead
of lifting them. This source will help me when arguing that children need to
figure out certain things on their own, and that parents need to help them
develop the skills to do so.

Learning from Mistakes: Why we need to let Children Fail, Bright Horizons
Family Solutions. Retrieved from, http://www.brighthorizons.com/familyresources/e-family-news/2013-the-importance-of-mistakes-helping-childrenlearn-from-failure/.
This article points out another topic that is crucial in the development of

children and the future of this world. Some people say that failure is not an
option, when in the case of children, failure is always an option. This article
states the importance of letting your child fail sometimes, and learn from failure
to become a successful adult by allowing children to develop important skills.
This article also has some tips on when to do certain things as a parent. For
example, one of the tips is (When your child asks for help), it gives parents tips

on how to effectively help children without giving them the answer, and having
them figure it out. This article will be used to address the errors parents and
schools make when they deny their children the ability to fail.

Morin, A. 10 Unhealthy Reasons Why Parents Avoid Disciplining Children.

About Parenting. Retrieved from,
http://discipline.about.com/od/disciplinebasics/a/10-Unhealthy-Reasons-WhyParents-Avoid-Disciplining-Children.htm
This article gives 10 reasons why parents are shying off on disciplining their

children. The reasons vary from teaching kids to be responsible of their actions,
to know that it is important for parents not to be lazy when raising their children.
Everywhere we go, a child might be misbehaving, disrespectful, or causing a
tantrum, that much is inevitable, and there is nothing wrong with that. However,
this article help distinguish the difference between normal and abnormal child
behavior. What is not right is that the childs parents are not disciplining or
educating their children. Parents, by being lazy, they let the child learn their
lesson as teenagers or adults, in a much harder way. I will use this article to
explain the importance of child disciplining, and how it is diminishing as time
passes.

Reotutar, B. (2013). Why is Financial Education Important? Deerfield Patch.

Retrieved from http://patch.com/illinois/deerfield/why-is-financial-educationimportant_ace10249.
Mr. Reotutar first defines what (financial literacy) is, and why it is important in

our world today. Financial education is one off the crucial components of life

Francisco Flores
these days that is not taught often by neither parents nor schools. He explains
that kids these days are more likely to end up in debt, than previous
generations. Children are now acquiring credit cards earlier in their lives than
before, making it easy for kids to accumulate large amounts of debt at a young
age. One of the causes of that is the lack of financial education children are
receiving today. I will use this information to stress that parents or schools are
not educating children on how to manage their finances. The entire credit, and
financial system, was created by past generations who burdened the new
generations with its existence, but fail to educate them on how the system
works.
