Most Employers use social media sites like

Instagram

To screen applicants for jobs!!!!

Checking to see if they are badmouthing people or


the company

Finding reason to fire you

Employers may be looking for personal information


to use against you

Opposing Side

Employers say its okay to use social media as a way to


screen people

It protects their company

They are making sure their employees aren't doing


anything bad

Checking up on employees

BUT WAIT

Is it really a fair argument to say you are viewing someones social media to see if they
fit the job or to protect the company???

NO!

Employers and companies should be focusing on a persons

Background

Experience

Knowledge

Degrees/Certifications/Diplomas

Laws

Federal Anti-discrimination law

Stored Communication Act (SCA)

Protects you from discrimination against your race, religion,


national origin, age, pregnancy status, martial status, or disability

Which doesn't allow employers to access electronic


communication with express authorization (which mean you cant
ask a job applicant for their social media password or make you
accept their friend request on Facebook)

National Labor Relations Act plus various state laws prohibiting


employers from disciplining employees for off-duty conduct

Conclusion

Be aware that employers and companies are viewing


your social media even though ITS NOT RIGHT!!!
