Nowmorethaneverpeopletreatdifferentraceslessthantheirown,theydonottreat
eachotherlikebrothersandsisters.Nomatterhowmuchpeopleareeducatedonthistopic,we
getfurtherawayfromreachingourgoaltoequality.Tryingtocoexistwitheachotherrarely
worksout.Ourcommunitiesaredividedupwheretheyrewhitepeopleinthericherareas,
Latinosintheirownarea,andAfricanAmericansinanotherarea.Whitesaretreatedasapriority
whileotherraceslikeLatinosandAfricanAmericansaretreatedasthestereotypesweareraised
tobelieveweare.ForexampleLatinos/AfricanAmericanswillneverrisetobesomethinggreat,
theyareonlylookingtocausetroubleandjoingangs.LatinosandAfricanAmericanswillonly
evermakeminimumwage,thatsifwe'relucky.Societyteachesusthatlatinosaregoodfor
cleaningandgardening,becausewedonothavepaperstoproperlywork.While
AfricanAmericansareghettoandarenothardworkers,lookingtorobpeopleandselltheseout
oftheircar.
Riots,protesting,andshowingeveryoneallthemurdersandbeatingshappeningonthe
newsgoesnowherebecausethereisstillalongwaytogotohaveamajorityofthepeoplestop
theracialprofiling.Insteadpeoplehighinofficethinkitwillbeeasiertopaythefamiliesfor
theirlossthantakeactionandholdthecopsresponsibleforwhattheyhavedone.Forexample

therewasacasewheretwowhitecopsbeatablackman,namedEricGarnertothepointwhere
hedied.HewashavingtroublebreathingandtoldthemseveraltimesIcantbreathebutthe
officersjustkeptgoingandgoing,eventhreateningtobeattheguythatwastryingtohelpthe
manifhedidntstepawayorthecameramanwhowassimplyrecordingthebrutallygoingon.
Whentheywenttotrialthepeopledeclinedtoholdthecopresponsibleforkillingaman,instead
theypaid5.9milliondollarstohisfamilyfortheirloss.Andofficerstriedbanningrecordswhen
youcomeintocontactwithanofficerarrestingsomeone,whichmeansthattheyclearlyhave
somethingtohideandaredoingsomethingwrongthatcouldpossiblegetthemintotrouble.This
wholeincidentwascompletelywrong,andcauseddaysofprotestingthatBlackLivesMatter.
Thisverdictisshowingthatoursocietyagreeswithhigherauthorityphysicallyhurtingthepublic
becausetheyareacertainrace,andbecausetheyareheretoprotectustheyareabovethelaws.
Awhitecopbeatingablackmanseemedokaytothepeopleofthejury,becauseobviouslythe
cophadagoodreason,wrong.Inoursocietyweshouldnotbescaredofpoliceofficers,theyare
heretoprotectandserve.Ifwestepoutoflinewithawhitecopandtheyhavetherighttobeat
us,thenthereissomethingwrongwithhowthesystemisworking.TwilightandAlways
Runninghaveshownusamoredescriptivelookatracismanddiscriminationthathashappened.
Twilighttalksmoreabouttheriotinginlosangelesandalwaysrunningtalksaboutracial
profilingthathappenedwithinthefamily.
Thatswhydifferentracesasidefromwhiteshavetobecarefulwiththewaytheydrive
becausefornoreasontheymightgetpulledover,theyhavetobecarefulabouttheclothingthey
wearandwhattimeitisbecauseiftheyevensohappentobewearingahoodiewhenitscold

outatnightpeopleassumeweareagangmemberreadytohurtsomeone/causetrouble,justlike
thecopsthoughtwhentheykilled17yearoldTrayvonMartin.LatinosandAfricanAmericans
havetoteachtheirkidsthattheyneedtobecarefularoundpoliceandtakeextrameasuresnotto
getinvolvedwiththem,becauseiftheyevensohappentoputtheirhandswheretheyarent
visibleinastoreorstartlookthroughtheirbagsthenthestoreownerwillautomaticallyassume
wearetryingtostealsomething.Theyteachtheirkidstotakeextraprecautionstokeepthem
alivelonger,beforetheyareevenoldenoughtounderstandwhytheseprecautionshavetobe
taken.Theyteachtheirkidsassoonaspossiblethatweareallnottreatedequally,thattheiris
favoritisminthisworld.Havingtoteachthistotheyoungergenerationtellsusalotaboutour
societyandsomethingneedstochange.
Ontheotherhandnotallcopsarebad,sometimesthenewsandpeopleonfacebooklike
toaccuseallcopsofbeingmorallycorruptwheninrealitytheremightbeahandfulofofficers
thataren'tdoingtheirjobtoprotectandservebutwehavetogivecredittothosewhoareand
holdtheoneswhoaren'tresponsible.Whetheritbeingtheauthoritythathastakencontrolof
themoritbeingthewaytheywereraisedtobelieveinstereotypes.Sometimessocietythinksthat
becauseseveralcopsareunjustifyinglykillingblackpeoplelooksmorallywrongtheywould
ratherlabelthepoliceofficersasmentalillandhavebeendealingwiththisforawhilenow.
Thanhavingthemownuptotheiractions,butagainnotallcopsarebad.Becauseifpeoplelive
theireverydaylivesbelievingallpoliceofficersareouttogetthemthenthatmeanstheywould
belivingtheirlivesinastateoffearandinsecurity.Policeofficersareheretoprotecteveryone

fromdangernotbethedanger.Soevenwhenafewofficerskillfornogoodreason,wehaveto
continuetobelievethattherestoftheofficersarelivinguptotheirname.
Asasocietyitshowswereverystubbornandrefusetomakechangestobetterourselves,
peoplewouldratherclassifythewayacertainwayaraceisthansaygroupsofpeoplearelike
that.Youcannotclassifyanentireracefortheactionsofcertaingroupsofpeople.Peoplecannot
saythatbecausesomeoneismuslimthattheyareaterrorist,wheninrealitytherehavebeen
minimumattackscomparingthethethousandsandthousandsofpeoplethataremuslims.One
solutiontothisproblemistoholdtheresponsiblepeopleaccountabletotheiractions.One

Discriminationhasbeenaroundformanymanyyears,butmorerecentlyithasaffected
onespecificrace.Everythinghappeninginthenewsisimportanttosociety,itshouldbeatrigger
thatifsomethingdoesnotchangeitwillonlygetworsefromhereonout.Peopleshouldnothave
toteachtheirkidstoprotectthemselvesfrompoliceofficers,weshouldteachpoliceofficersto
liveuptotheirnamesandstopthismadness.

ThisessayunliketheothersIfoundeasiertowritewith.Therewassomuchtotalkabout
becausewewereabletotalkabouthowourtopicswerediscussedandinthetwobooks,how
thesetopicsarehappeninginoureverydaylives,orhowtheyhavebecomeaproblemthroughout
time.Theannotatedbibliographyreallyhelpedputtingtheessaytogether.Ifyoudidn'thavea
lot/enoughtotalkaboutitwasreallyhelpful.Italsomadesensebecauseitwasntlikeyouwere
justaddinginacitationfromanoutsidesourcefornoreason,orifyoudidntknowhowto
supportyourevidencetheexamplewasreallyhelpfulwithwritingit.AlthoughIthinkthatI
couldveputmyannotatedbibliographyinabetterorder,butIthoughtthatmaybetherewasnt
reallyaspecificordertoputtingitintotheessay.The15minuteconferencehelpedalotaswell
withstructuringmyessay.IhadalotofthoughtsrunningaroundinmyheadsoIthinkIjust
wroteeverythingdownasIwentonwritingtheessaywithoutreallyputtingitintoagood
flowingorder.Ithelpedmeorganizemythoughtsandcreateabetterpaper.Ifeellikemypaper
mighthavebeenmorebiastoonesidebutItriedtohaveacounterargumentsayingnotall
policeofficersarebadeventhoughrightnowitsgettingharderandhardertobelievebecauseso
manyofthemarebecomingmorallycorrupt.OtherthanthatIfeelthatIhaveastrongessayfor
racism/discriminationshowinghowithasbecomeabiggerissueintodayssocietyandshowing
howmanypeopleithasaffectedandthecertainraces,evencreatingtheblacklivesmatter
becauseiftheydontspeakupthennoonewillandthesemorallycorruptsocietywillcontinue
