University education should be restricted to the outstanding students,

rather than being opened to a large proportion of youngsters.
A university is an institution of tertiary education and research which grants

academic degrees in various courses such as undergraduate

education and postgraduate education. University is also described as a key of
future for nation and children. However there is a statement that argues about
university education should be restricted to the outstanding students, rather than
being opened to a large proportion of youngsters. There are some causes that built
up this statement and yet, it would also bring some effects on our nation if this
statement is being approved by government or person in charge.
The main cause of restricting university education to the elite students is to improve

the quality of both universities and students. University requires a lot of abilities
and skills to keep up with massive and complex knowledge. This is the reason
why there are people suggest that university should be available for the pupils
who perform well during high school and they think that those outstanding
students good at high school proved that they worked hard on studying so that the
quality of particular university could be maintained or improved. Beside, the quality
and reputation of a university are also the cause of restricting the tertiary education
to the outstanding youngsters. Based on the national student survey made in year
2004, the statistic shows that 88% of students in UK Universities are satisfied with
the quality of their degree courses as most of the universities there restrict tertiary
education to the outstanding youngsters. This shows the importance of having good
reputation of a university. A good overall quality university could be famous anyway.
Hence, it might be the choice for elite students who are going to continue their higher

education. So, the ranking of the university could be maintained as well as it gives a
reasonable and independent basis for deciding how excellent a university or a
subject within a university really is.
Apart from that, somebody believes that opening university to large proportion of
people without any control could be a waste of money and time. Universities offer
graduate programs leading to a masters degree or a Ph.D such as pharmacy,
architectural, law and so on. These institutions also may have a medical or law
school for students demanding to go for professional degrees. Hence, public believe
that university is only suitable for the outstanding students since they prove that they
are hardworking students and have strong desire to study. For the students who are
not getting flying colours during high school but can attempt to study at university, it
is still really difficult for them, especially they do not understand exactly what they are
studying since they lack of the basic of knowledge. Thus, it is such a waste of money
and time for those mediocre students to take the doctoral or professional courses if
they do not have the desire to study. Moreover, offering higher education to everyone
will decrease the efficiency of education. If everyone can go to university without any
restriction, the different in level of knowledge and understandings among the
students could be a tough task for the lecturers to teach and guide with. So,
expecting a good quality of education from such condition is impossible.
This restriction may bring some positive and negative effects into our country. By
restricting the offer of university to the excellent student, the number of professions
with good quality would be increase somehow. This could improve the image of our
country and the education system of our country might become famous around the
world. Moreover, the good study atmosphere would be occurred in each school and
the students would try to strive for flying colours just to enter university for further

studies and get a good job by holding a good qualification of degree course or
above. In contrast, if everyone fights for a doctoral or a professional job, then the low
paid jobs such as cashiers, waiters, bartenders, plumbers and so on would be
ignored or rejected by present young generation. However, these types of job play a
very crucial role in building a country. Without them, many things may not work well.
Hence, the increasing of outsiders from other countries occurs as our country lacks
of human resources. The phenomena could make the people of the country feel
insecure and unsafe. This is because the rate of crime increases because of the
outsiders. According to the investigation made by a policeman in year 2015, most of
the murder cases and maltreatment of nannies towards old forks and children are
done by the outsiders from other countries.
In the nutshell, I strongly disagree the restriction of university education to the
outstanding youngsters. Everyone has human right to study. In my opinion, university
should be offered to those who really have desire to study. As a good say from Albert
Einstein, "Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it
will live it whole life believe it is stupid". So, why should we say no to the mediocre
students to study in university? Getting flying colours during high school does not
mean everything for the future of that student.
