Dear Dr. Bruce,
The purpose of this cover letter is to represent that I have
successfully achieved the six student learning outcomes (SLOs)
listed in the English 360 course syllabus and portfolio
instructions. Throughout the Technical Writing 360 course, I
have accomplished many writing assignments, and I have
chosen two assignments to show what I have learned from your
lecture to write efficiently. My major assignment is a progress
report addressed to the iFixit Technical Writing Team. The
additional assignment is the e-waste presentation PPT. The
documents are arranged in order of my progress in writing. The
progress report is presented from the original document to peer
review, to the original doc with instructors comments, and to
the rewrite document. I feel that my portfolio is persuasive
enough and shows I have mastered the SLOs and improved as a
writer. I will list the student learning outcomes in order and
explain how the documents met the requirements.
The first SLO is to write formally and informally, in-class
and out-of-class, for a variety of audiences and purposes. The
progress report satisfies the formal, out-of-class standard. The
audience of this progress report is iFixit Technical Writing
Team, and the purpose is to inform them of my team's current
work. To address to a different audience, our team also uploaded

this assignment to you. The most important part I have learned is


to analyze the target audiences and the purpose to make my
writing more proficient.
To find, evaluate, select, synthesize, organize, ethically cite,
and present information from a variety of sources appropriate to
their disciplines is the second SLO. My e-waste presentation of
child labor fulfills this standard because the information was
taken from many resources such as CNN website. I evaluated,
synthesized, and organized them in the PPT format. Figures,
charts, and data are selected and organized on Prezi media. This
assignment is also to persuade the audience, which satisfies the
third SLO to compare, contrast, and synthesize carefully and
objectively the relative merits of alternative or opposing
arguments. I compared and synthesized the issue of child labor
and realized that there is an unimaginable amount of child
workers around the world and most of them work in hazardous
environment according to the data and resources from the
official websites of CNN and NGOs' websites.
The organization of my progress report satisfies the fourth
SLO. Headings and subheadings describe the content concisely.
Readers can easily go through my report to learn about what we
have done and what have been processed. Furthermore, to
achieve a clear design, I used appropriate white space and font
in the progress report. In addition, the colorful schedule sheet
makes the appearance more attractive. Therefore, I believe this
project also fulfills the SLO number five.
My progress report also shows teamwork, which satisfies the
sixth SLO. Each member of our team contributed to this
assignment. We used the GroupMe app and Google Drive
so we can communicate, write, and revise each others writing in

real time. These are the reasons why I believe the progress
report meets this requirement.
I feel much more confident in writing technical projects for
my future research papers and career. I believe that I still need to
practice writing efficiently and revising my papers. I also need
to further develop my writing skills by following the six learning
outcomes. I would like to thank you for your guidance
throughout the course and hope that this letter will help you
better understand and guide you through my e-Portfolio.
