Planning and Preparation

Lesson: Lifting Latent
Fingerprints

Planning is well done and has a clear sequence of instruction and defined
structure (Review from last class, demonstration of fingerprinting, kids doing
the activity)

You communicate clearly with the students and are fluent in your speech. Your
vocabulary is age appropriate.

You have established the beginning of your lesson with some review of the
concepts that you have done in a past lesson good.
Good questions they arent on your lesson plan though except for the ones
related to the video other ones need to be written down.
Demonstration around the front table good. Can all kids see what you are
doing? I like that you use one of the students to create a fingerprint. Nicely
done.
Move to a different location for the second demo is there a reason why you
did that? Just curious
Great second demo. Kids know exactly what to do here when they go back to
their tables.
This is a great hands-on activity for the kids to do. I appreciate that you had
THEM do it after you showed the demo so important for them to engage in
the activity as they learn much more.
Could you have the kids sit at the tables and then go around with the
holepunch?

Student Learning

The questions you asked are lower level blooms I think if you are having the
students apply what they know, it would be beneficial to add questions into
your lesson plans (you do have some, but many of the questions you asked
seemed off the cuff which is fine but if you plan out exactly what you
are going to ask, the likelihood of your questions being multi-leveled are much
greater.
Suggestion if kids are creating their own fingerprints, are there questions
you can ask them about fingerprints to see if they can identify parts of the
fingerprints on an individual level? Could you collect some data here as you
walk around and ask pertinent questions?

Recognizes and responds to
individual differences
Reinforces student learning
building on learning

Closure
Consolidates ideas/concepts through
summaries, reviews
Provides homework where appropriate and
explains

Nice wrap up of ideas and gaining and understanding of what students know.
Well done.
I would suggest that you need to think more deeply about the level of
questions you are askingusing Blooms.

CLASSROOM LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

You have a great presence and your leadership with this group is great.

Assess student learning using a

variety of appropriate assessment
techniques
Timely and effective feedback
Modifies and adapts teaching
based on assessment data
Explain to students how learning
will be assessed

You show initiative and enthusiasm with this lesson

It is clear that you have

Go back to original desk groups numbered off 1-4 and having them come
one at a time to get the materials excellent management here
Boys goofing off at the paper towel dispenser you addressed it right away.

Using hold it great. All kids are paying attention. Addressing the
paintbrush and talking issue kids respond appropriately.
Great job using the cleanup song. Kids responded well and went right to work.
Excellent.
What information are you collecting through observation?
Conversation? How are you keeping track of that information?
You need to be clear about how you are going to collect and
keep data you need to be able to prove student learning
through these pieces.
