Technology Exploration Template

Your name: Kalie Holdren

Grade Level that you intend to teach for this activity: 2nd grade
Content Area: Visual Arts
Technology Tool(s): Kahoot!
Summary of your technology project (What is your overall intent with this
lesson/activity? Describe how you will use technology in this lesson/activity?)
My intent for the activity is for students to show their knowledge of primary and
secondary colors. The students will complete the Kahoot! quiz in order for me to identify
whether or not they know their primary and secondary colors. This activity will be
followed by students working in table groups to create primary, secondary, and full color
wheels on paper.

Standard/Indicators (Which standards/indicators are addressed in my lesson? Use at
least one Indiana Standard/Indicator and one ISTE standard/indicator)
Indiana Standards-- http://www.doe.in.gov/standards
ISTE technology standards for students-- http://www.iste.org/standards/ISTEstandards/standards-for-students
Visual Arts 2.7.2: Discriminate between types of lines (characteristics and qualities),
shapes (geometric and organic), textures (tactile and visual), colors (primary and
secondary), and space (placement/overlapping/negative/positive/size), in own work and
the works of others.
ISTE standard 5c: Exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports
collaboration, learning, and productivity.

Learning Targets (What will your students be able to do when they have finished this
lesson? What idea, topic, or subject is important for your students to learn and
understand so that they can do this? How will your students show that they can do this,
and how well they can do this?)
The student will be able to identify the primary and secondary colors by successfully
completing the Kahoot quiz and creating color wheels with their table groups.

Artifact (Show us how you would use selected technology tool(s) in this lesson? This
could be something you would use as an instructor or a mock student project to

demonstrate how they may use selected technology tool(s) to in their learning. Include a
URL link of the artifact or attach the artifact in ACE forums). 6 points
Students will log in using the code for Kahoot. I intend for the students to use iPads for
this assessment if they are available (otherwise, I will need to figure out another way to
give this assessment). They will enter their id number as their nickname so I can save the
results and be able to identify the students who need additional instruction/clarification.

One difficulty the students can run into is Kahoot sometimes kicks students out of the
quiz. In order to combat this problem it would be a good idea for students to write down
their answers as well as enter them into Kahoot. One problem that students may run into
is not paying attention to the color and shape for the answer. It is possible for a student to
accidently pick the primary or secondary color that is an answer choice rather than
reading the answers for each button.
Mentions at least 2 specific points from exploring and using the tool. (2 points)

TPACK Connections (How does the use of technology in this lesson fit the TPACK
framework? How do I know that technology is not an add-on, instead demonstrates
effective integration of knowledge? If you think your Content, instructional strategies and
technology fit together strongly within the instructional plan, explain it!)
This lesson fits within the TPACK framework by utilizing technology to help teach the
content and further the pedagogy. I use technology to for the students to demonstrate their
knowledge. The content itself is the primary and secondary color wheels. The pedagogy
is the assessment and group work that will help solidify these color wheels for students.
Making sure to walk around and pay attention to students as they work will also help
determine which students need extra help. Technology replaces the need to have the
students take a paper and pencil test.
