Problem Solving Reflection

Prompt 1: I would identify a natural resource challenge as the depletion of a resource that is
needed to carry out certain functions within society. For example, the rapid extraction of fossil
fuels to burn and convert into energy for consumption. I would identify an environmental
challenge as an effect of the rapid depletion of natural resources in the world. For example,
burning coal produces vast amounts of carbon dioxide which pollutes the atmosphere and raises
environmental concerns.

Prompt 2: In order to solve these environmental problems, people need to come together and
consider the long term, what will be good for future generations, and how to ensure the survival
of other species on the planet. People also need to become more aware and educated on the
environmental problems that are arising because of us.

Prompt 3: For some environmental and natural resource issues, theres no sure way to conclude
whether or not the problem has been rectified. For other problems, such as the overfishing of a
certain species of fish, if a study is done after the overfishing has ceased and the fish population
returns to steady numbers, then the problem has most likely been solved. If carbon dioxide
levels return to a steadier rate, then the burning of fossil fuels has slowed down some, possibly
allowing the atmosphere to recover.
