Abstract
Academic preschools Too Much Too Soon? Are academic preschool good idea? Professionals have
argued about academic preschools benefits for children. There is a debate between them, some are
in favor of academic preschools others are against it. Comparing academics and play-base. What are
the impacts and who is affected.

Pre-schools have changed since its beginnings. Pre-school used to be a preparation for
school now it is more like a school experience. Children are learning in an academically
environment. By the time they get to kindergarten they already know the alphabet, numbers and
even how to write their name. this have create a debate between professionals. Those professionals
discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having young children learning academics.
In the eighteenth century started impacting education. during this a debate about preschools
experiences started. Jean Jacques thought that children learn by exploring and experimenting as
they through biological developmental stages. Whereas, John Locke thought that children learn by
the opportunities to learn given by adults. Academic Instruction In Early Childhood Education
Challenges or Pressure? No. 53 (Rescorla Leslie, Hyson Marion C.,Hirsh-Pasek Kathy, 1991) since
then and on there has been this debate about academic in early childhood. Some people strongly
disagree with the idea of having children learning academics contemps at their early ages. Others

view academic programs are a great oath to prepare children to be successful in life.
Academic preschools are becoming more and more popular. But the question is are they
good idea? its believe that its valuable for children to learn academic content such as math,
reading and science at a young age. children are like a little sponge, they absorb everything, the
more information you can expose them to the better mentioned Shirley Mace administration at the
started school in Los Gatos California. Many parents support academic pre-school because the said
they have seen their kids more interested on learning new things. She understand things at a deep
level said the mother of a preschooler.
In the other hand, there are professionals who think that young children are not prepare for
academics and it will cause social skill problems for them (Boyd Hannah Boyd, 2011) David Elkind
a professor of child development at Tufts University and author of The Hurried child and the power
of play argued that toddlers only need to learned three things before enter to kindergarten. Those
three things are listen to adults and follow direction, complete some tasks in their own pace and
work and play cooperability with other kids. He also says children need to know the language of
things before they learn the language of words. Other experts (Boyd Hannah, 2011) have said
children often learn reading and math at expenses of their social skills. They supported the PlayBased programs. Based on Fromber and Gullo (1992) play enhance language development, social
skills, creativity, imagination and thinking skills. Yet, there is not exact answer of which program is
better for kids. Children learn at their own pace. Some kids understand things at early ages others
need to be a little older to have a good reasoning. children are capable of a lot of development
early than we can think of, but we dont want their time to overly structured, we still want children
to have a good, fun and joyful childhood points out Sharon Bergen Senior vice president of
Education and Training for the Knowledge Learning Corporation.
This trend affects teachers, parents and children in special. For many children making the
transition from home to school is fraught with difficult, Early Childhood Education 08/09, 21/e
(Paciorek, 2008). Children have to learn to share,, negotiate disagreement, deal with conflicts and

participate in cooperative activities. Teachers as educational leaders need to take very seriously the
responsibility they have to guide and teach kids in a proper way. They can give all children the
chance to expose their intellectual skills. But need to avoid teaching strategies that take all of the
joy out of teaching, Early Childhood Education 08/09, 21/e (Paciorek, 2008). Parents and teachers
need to have a good communication. Parents must be informed on how their children are
performing at school and get involved in their education. Janet Chrispeels a professor of education
at the University of California in San Diego point out that building a two way exchange also
requires shifting the dynamic of the conference from reporting on one child to eliciting from parents
a better understanding of a child strengths at home in order to provide clues to help children at
school.
