Reflection Paper
When I first started English 1010 I didnt know how to write a response, refection, rhetorical and
position paper. With the help of English 1010 class I have properly learned how to write an
essay. At first when I started this class I was nervous and scared because writing is one of least
favorite subject because there are so many rules and guide lines you have to follow. But I told
myself you have to take this class because it is required and to try my best to learn the necessity
of writing. Now that this class is over and I am writing this reflection paper I am very confident
and excited to take my English 2010 class. I have learned so much in my class on how to write
an essay and how to be a critical thinker while writing. There are three things that I have really
learned about in English 1010. The first thing I learned about is from the book the they say and
I say part of the book. When I first started this class I had a hard time understanding what part
of a book was the they say and I say part. I learned this strategy when we had to do an essay
on how to respond to what they say about a topic and then I say is what reflect on the topic.
This book also helped to become a better reader by figuring out who is the they say and I say

part. The second thing I have learned from this class is how make a counterargument in an essay.
Counterarguments is when you take position and argue that your claim is right by giving
examples of your own perspective or finding evidence to back up your claim. Before I started
writing I never how to use a counterargument in my essay but learning how to make a
counterargument I found out it is one of favorite things to do in writing an essay. The third thing
I learned is composing processes in drafting, revision, and peer feedback. The most important
thing I have gained and learned from writing is our drafting, revision and feedback. With making
a rough draft and getting it revised by other classmates was very beneficial for me because it
helped me to see and catch the mistakes that I have made so I can make some changes to them.
Without drafting and revision I dont think I could have had good essay. Peer review was also
beneficial for me I got a chance to look at other classmates rough drafts and analyze them to help
myself understand the assignment. Another thing I liked about peer review is asking questions. I
liked asking questions because it helps me understand more about my assignment.
I am very happy that I toke this class with Jim Beatty in English 1010. Now that I am finished
with this English class I feel more confident and want to start my other required English classes.
