Tornados
Case Study #38
Diagnosis and Explanation
We said this person is probably experiencing posttraumatic stress disorder. Since she is having
night terrors, flashbacks and had a recent encounter with a tornado. By her house being
plagued by the tornado and by it being by her house she saw the cause and the effect that the
tornado had on her life.

Behavioral Therapies
We thought she could be shown videos, pictures etc. about tornados, how theyre formed and
why they are caused to help her get a better understanding of tornados and try to get over the
fear and having such a bad anxiety of tornados.

Cognitive Therapies
Weve been explaining to her why they happen and how they happen and explain to her what
she can do to protect her house, and family. We can help her get to the source of why the
destruction of the tornado had such a traumatic effect on her life. And we can also help her
decide why its been such a problem for her to get over tornados.

Group Therapies
We can get her in a group of a bunch of other people that are afraid of natural disasters and
they can talk together to try and reach the common goal of what the source of their problem is
and try to get over their fear.

Biological Treatments
Any types of antidepressants like lexapro could help someone with PTSD

Case Study #34

Diagnosis and Explanation

Some things she could be diagnosed with is being delusional because shes thinking her arm is
paralyzed when doctors have found nothing physically wrong with her. She also could have
hypochondria because shes obsessed with the idea that her steering arm is paralyzed but its
an undiagnosed medical condition so nothing's really wrong with her. Also she could have
psychosis because its a mental disorder characterized by a disconnection from reality.

Behavioral Therapies
She can do a Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral to help her try and accept her
uncomfortable psychological experiences and try to teach her to control and eliminate the
unwanted thoughts and feeling of her thinking that her steering arm is paralyzed.

Cognitive Therapies
We can try and help her make sense of her personal experiences of the car crash she was in.
We could help her reevaluate the fearful thoughts that she has about the car crash event and try
to help her change her thought patterns and feelings.

Group Therapies
We could put her with a group of people who are also delusional, have psychosis, and or people
who have hypochondria. Talking with other people who have the same psychological disorders
as her could help her talk through her problems and help her get to a better mental state. They
can also help motivate her to get over what shes holding onto mentally.

Biological Treatments
Any type of antipsychotic medication could help with psychosis. But it said that what mostly
would work is the patient talking through and about their problems because they are holding
something in and they need to find what it is that theyre holding onto so that it can help them
get better.
