*Data provided by the Associated Press.
One clear similarity between all of these weekly ratings is that a sporting event, more
specifically, NFL football, always ranks at number one. The week of October 26 to November 1
has by far the most sporting events listed, with a total of six out of ten spots taken by an NFL
related event and MLB World Series games. November 9-November 15 has the lowest amount of
sports programming listed, with a total of two, both being NFL related. The trend that I see is
that sporting events take a huge chunk of viewers and many spots on each weekly listing.
Popular shows, such as the Big Bang Theory and the Walking Dead appear consistently weekly
compared to politics, such as the Republican Presidential Debate, that ranks lowly. It is clear that
politics arent popular among television viewers, which is surprising, given the importance and
significant role it has in our daily lives. Sitcoms and reality television shows do appear, but none
of these categories can compare to the total viewership of sports programming. The NFL plays a
significant role in what people watch, especially on Sundays. No other sport, except baseball,
appears on the charts. It shows the popularity of certain sports and the lack of popularity of many

others. Soccer, basketball, hockey, and other sports are not listed. These weekly numbers
(millions) highlight what the majority of the American population prefers to watch but these
programs and rankings may change depending on the time period and many other factors.
