Goals/Key questions
Goals: Questions: How do you create a christmas ornament? How do you paint a
christmas ornament? What could you put inside a christmas ornament?
Students will learn how to fill and paint a christmas ornament like a snowman.
Objective (connected to PofS):
GLO: Component 10 (iii) Media and Techniques: students will use media and
techniques, with an emphasis on exploration and direct
methods in painting
SLO: B. Painting: learn simple brush skills: holding and unloading the brush,
applying paint, cleaning the brush, paint directly without
preliminary sketching
GLO: Component 9 Craftsmanship: students will add finishing touches
SLO: A. Finishing touches can be added to make a work more powerful

Pre lesson Considerations


Lesson overview of main ideas to be learned and prelearning required:
Students know what a christmas ornament is and what a snowmans face looks
like.

Christmas bulbs
Black paint
Orange paint
White shredded paper

Will have students sit on the reading rug.


Will explain that they will be making a
christmas ornament. First they will fill their
christmas ball with white shredded paper.
Once they have filled their ornament with
white shredded paper then they will put
some glitter in their ball. They will then
find a teacher who will put the top on their
ornament and write their name on it.They
will then paint a face on their snowman.
They will paint their snowmans eyes and
mouth with the q-tips to make black dots.
They will then use the paintbrush to paint

to the side counter and will put it in a cup
to dry.

Grade 2s can go to the hexagon table and


start filling their ornament, Grade 1s can
go to the square table and start filling their
ornament, and Kindergartens can go to
the rectangle table.

ornaments and will put tops on as they
finish. Will observe students painting their
snowman faces and will help if they are
struggling.
