) Learning Objectives:
- Given a story read by the teacher entitled Best Friends, the student will understand the concept of friendship.
- The student will be able to create a picture book based on an understanding of themselves, their likes and dislikes.
- The student will participate in a singing game lead by the teacher in order to get to know the others in the classroom.

-If a child has a vision problem, make sure to seat the student closest to the teacher, especially during story time.

4.) Procedures:
1.
Teachers will introduce themselves to the students and give them an idea of what kind of lesson they will be learning
today.
2.
Students will sit on the carpet and the teacher will go over the classroom rules, rules for good listeners and good
speakers.

Teacher will read the book Being Friends by Karen Beaumont and ask questions about the friendship between the two
girls in the story. Before reading, the teacher will tell the students the title of the book and describe to them what an author
does and who the author of Being Friends is.

Teacher will instruct students that it is their time to become an author and "write" their own autobiography.

During this time, the teacher will be calling the students one by one up to the front of the room and taking their individual
picture.

Once books are constructed, the teacher will have the students and college students come to the carpet. Teacher will ask
what kinds of things the students learned new about somebody else and what types of things the students drew.
To close the lesson, students and college students will form a circle, join hands, and learn the song "Friend of Mine" sung to the tune
Mary Had a Little Lamb. When it's the child's turn, they will go to the center of the circle and the rest of the class will dance around
them.

After everyone has had a chance to be in the middle of the circle, the teachers will instruct the students to sit back down
on the carpet and tell them that they have ten new friends that look forward to seeing them over the rest of the semester.
