Exergaming Project

How does Exergaming affect our HR and our enjoyment?

Exergaming?

Results

After participating in the three excer-games, I

put together and analyzed the results that the
group came up with. First we took our resting
heart rates. The group had heart rates
ranging from 52 to 82 beats per second. The
average was 70 beats per second. After
participating in the UFC game, the group had
an average of 104.19 beats per second. After
participating in the Dance Central game, the
group had an average of 108.76 beats per
second. After participating in the Zumba
Dance game, the group had a average heart
rate of 109. When looking at the enjoyment
levels of each game, the group had an
average enjoyment level of 6.5 in the UFC
game. In the Dance Central game, the group
had an average enjoyment of 7.78. In the
Zumba Dance game the group had an
average enjoyment of 5.3.

If you have ever played Nintendos popular

game consule, the Wii, and have played Wii
sports, then you have participated in
something called Exergaming! Exergaming is
a fun, interactive method of exercise. The term
exergaming typically is used for active-play
video games. The new and upcoming form of
video game play is a new interactive way of
staying in shape all while having fun! The
industry is sky rocketing as we speak. Major
gaming consoles now feature forms of
exergaming: Microsoft has come up with the
Kinect for Xbox, Sony has come up with the
Playstation Move, and Nintendo has featured
the WiiFit for years. We will be playing three
games: UFC Personal Trainer, Dance Central
2, and Zumba Fitness.

Enjoyment

In my presentation, I will be looking at how

Exergaming affects our heart rate and our level
enjoyment. We will measure our heart rate within a
minutes time before and after each game is played.
We will then rate our level enjoyment on a scale of
1-10. I believe that our level of enjoyment will be
based on how into and involved we are in the game.
The game the leaves us with the highest heart rate
will exhibit the largest level of enjoyment.

Enjoyment

Based on the results, if heart rate was an indication

of enjoyment, the order of enjoyment would have
been as follows: Zumba Dance, Dance Central 2,
UFC Personal Fighter. However this was not the
case. After looking at the results and finding the
average enjoyment levels the order of enjoyment is
as follows: Dance Central 2, UFC Personal
Fighter, Zumba Dance. My hypothesis was
technically incorrect, however, I did find that the
largest spike in heart rate came after switching
from the UFC game to the Dance Central game. I
find this interesting because the group never got
back to their resting heart rate after playing the
previous game. The experiment is flawed, but
based on the difference from the previous heart
rate, Dance Central did have the biggest jump.
This means that heart truly may play a role on the
level of enjoyment.
