Teaching Procedure
Prepare
1. I would like 2 volunteers to come help me pass out the spotlight on music
textbooks.
2. Write 167 on the board and tell students to open to page 167.
3. Please take 30 seconds to read through the lyrics of the song in your head quietly.
4. After some time has passed, ask if anyone has any idea what the words mean.
5. They are nonsense words! And they are supposed to sound like a spinning wheel,
which looks like this. (Show picture)
6. Can anyone think of a motion that we could do that might look like a spinning
wheel?
7. Everyone please do this movement while I sing the song for you.
Present
1. Sing through song while students are performing the movement.
2. One of my favorite parts of this song is ret-set-set. This time when I sing the
song, lets tap the rhythm of ret-set-set on our thighs. You can follow along in
the music if you need to.
Practice & Extend
1. Lets learn how to sing this song. Ill sing a bit of it for you and you repeat after
me.
2. Teach the song by chunking in 2 bar groups.
3. Sing through in chunks of four bars.
4. Sing the whole song once through.
Assess & Close

1. Everyone please repeat after me (sing 2 Cs one octave apart).

2. This pattern happens in this song.
3. Lets stand up and sing it one last time, and raise our hand when we hear the
pattern that we just sang together. It might happen more than once, so keep
listening!
