SIX GRADE REAL WORLD MATH GROUP ASSIGNMENT

In this group assignment, 3 students will work on opening their own


restaurant. They will have to use the operations of rational numbers to figure out
how much opening their restaurant will cost. They need to sell their restaurant idea
to me, so it must be creative and neat. It must be on a poster board or a
PowerPoint. Students must use multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction in
this project. Presentation requirements are stated in the rubric. Project will be due in
2 weeks.

Procedure

Grading and Assessment

1. Discuss the group assignment on


real world math to the students.
2. Discuss how the students should
present their work, and the
required materials.
3. Have the students pick their
partners to create groups of 3.
4. Pass out the rubric to each group.
5. Show them the filled out graphic
as an example of what the
students should do.
6. Have the students get into their
groups and pass out the blank
graphic.
7. Students will now brainstorm their
ideas on paper and turn it in at the
end of class.
8. Have the students fill in their
graphic according to their
brainstorming ideas.
9. Make it clear that the students
must have all 4 operations to turn
in for a grade.
Students will turn in their brain storming
sheet and will receive 5 points on it if
they have completed it with at least one
idea. Then look at the graphic the
students have completed to make sure
they have used every operation. Make
sure they have filled in every blank
space.
