The main argument in this source is that Usan Napier, an animator leaves out the Japanese
patriarchy and the dark side of anime in one of her book anime, From Akira to Princess
Mononoke. The point of the article is to criticize the anime by telling the readers what Napier
leaves out in the anime when she covers important social and cultural themes and what causes
her to avoid talking about it. The article elements that fall into categories such as mecha,
romance, and fantasy. The article also covers feminine qualities that play a role in anime, and the
seduction that female characters use in anime. This article focuses on the book anime, From
Akira to Princess Mononoke by Usan Napier that is considered the highest grossing film in
Japan. The author also focuses on the creators of anime and the patriarchy society they live
which would rarely be mentioned in Japanese articles. If someone asks me what this article is
about, I would mention that it argues about a book anime and how the creator leaves out
information due to her lack of knowledge of the Japanese society. It is a useful source because
the article gives personal opinions on the anime, discussing gender stereotypes, and argues about
multiple problems and elements of the Japanese society. Compared to my other sources, the site
is more biased, and focuses on the gender stereotypes of both genders and why animation reflects
some of those gender stereotypes. The information is reliable because it comes from Hofstra
University, and because the site has .Edu in its URL. The goal of this source is to address
elements that are occasionally left out in anime such as gender issues caused by lack of
information or the denial of wanting to change how it is. This source was helpful to me because
it helped me incorporate the idea that the anime reflects the animators beliefs. It has helped me
realize that female characters are often viewed as objects by men. The source has helped me use
evidence that ties to the topic of seduction, which is visible to peoples eyes.

"Meena Communication Initiative." Unicef.org. UNICEF Media Centre. Web. 8 Dec. 2015.
The point of this article is to introduce a project called Meena Communication Initiative. The
article covers topics such as what the project is, how it is used, and what they aim to accomplish
by using it. If someone asks me what the article is about, I would tell them that it introduces
people to a project that was launched in 1998 in order to alert people in South Asia about girls

rights, where it is the most gender-challenging environment in the world. The article was useful
because it was a reliable source created by UNICEF that explained the project specifically. When
I compare it with other sources, this source clearly was the most reliable source since it is an .org
website and the UNICEF organization is well known around the world. This source is completely
objective because it operates on proper evidence. The goal of the article is to let people notice
that there are such projects aimed to solve gender issues, a problem that has not disappeared over
the course of times. This source was helpful to me because I was able to confirm that the
information I found on a different site was talking about the project based on evidence, and that
the other source is also reliable. It helped me get an idea of how I can end the podcast that would
tie to solutions of gender issues through anime. It has changed my thought that anime can be
used as a teaching tool to a large mass of people in the world.

Rie, Tamaki. []
. Globalvoices.org. 23 Mar. 2014. Web. 8 Dec. 2015
The point of this article is to introduce people in Japan to the Meena Communication Initiative.
Topics such as what it is were covered, and also uses evidence from peoples opinions or studies
to teach us positive effects of the project that has been seen in South Asia. If someone asks me
what the article is about, I would tell them that it informs people about a project that UNISED
has launched that has had significant effects on girls rights and mens attitude towards girls in
South Asia. The source is helpful because it demonstrates how peoples beliefs has changed in
South Africa by the project with evidence from people who were in reality, affected by it or knew
someone who has changed significantly. Compared to other sources, this source includes public
voices along with official evidence which has links attached to them. The information is reliable
because there are information identical to the UNICEF website, and because the site has .org in
its URL. The source is half biased and half objective because it uses public opinions but also
uses professional evidence such as the UNICEF report they mention. The goal of this source is to
teach people effects of the Meena Communication Initiative on people and society beliefs. This
source was helpful to me because it was the source where I found out about the Meena
Communication Initiative, which helped me find official information on the UNICEF website
and decide how to end the podcast. The source helps me understand the projects effect that it has
had on people already. It has changed my thinking about the topic because before I found this
source, I did not know that there was already a project that has successfully address gender
issues in a country.

Kincaid, Chris. "A Look at Gender Expectations in Japanese Society."

Japanpowered.com. 7 July 2013. Web. 10 Dec. 2015.
This article discusses about gender expectations in Japan and how it has changed over the course
of time. The article covers the difference of gender expectations since World War II and the
difference between modern expectations, and also animations portrayal of genders. If someone
asked me what this article is about, I would tell them that it focuses on gender expectations in

Japan, how it has changed over time and how animation plays a small role in it. It is a useful
source since it gives information that World War II separated genders completely, and how
modern Japan has changed in a positive way. Compared to other sources, there is more history
and it is easy to read since the author divides the article into sections. The information is reliable
because the article provides references for the multiple informations they used. It is also reliable
because the article is not in Japanese, meaning that information from outsiders are incorporated,
leaving out Japanese peoples beliefs which can make an article biased. The source is more
objective because it uses evidence and there doesnt seem to be opinion based evidence. The goal
of this source is to introduce people to the history of Japans gender stereotypes. This source was
helpful because it included a section for animation that matched with my opinions, and it also
gave specific examples of gender stereotypes that can be seen in anime. It helped me gain more
examples for gender stereotypes, and focus more on it.
