The American Civil Liberties Union talks about the rights we have as human beings and how they can
affect the decisions involving capital punishment. The main points that it covers are the current
issues involved in the death penalty. They talk about how the death penalty does not take into
account mental illness, innocence, or the misconduct of the prosecutors involved. They talk
about how we can defend our rights and how corrupt the death penalty is.

Shareef Cousin talked to CNN about how he was convicted of a murder he did not commit. The main
arguments he discusses is about how the prosecution lied and did not give correct information
to the judge and he was inadequately represented. He also talks about the process involved in a
death penalty trial and how long it took for him to be exonerated of his crime. It is not an easy
process and can take years to go through a trial.

David Dow is a death penalty lawyer that gave a Ted talk about how the death penalty does not take
into account mental illnesses and that we should reform the process of helping troubled youth
and keep them from committing crimes later in life. He talks about how there is a certain points
in life that you can be nudged in the right direction and if we educate youth at those critical
points, we can drastically reduce felonies.

Robert Kiener talks about the facts of the death penalty, and the states that have come to abolish it, and
the ones that still enforce it. His main point is about the Boston Marathon bomber and about
how his trial is still ongoing and has caused multiple arguments about the effectiveness of the
death penalty.

Andrea Lyon is an author that wrote a book about how the death penalty is affected by current politics
and about how innocent lives are affected every day. She references a man that was on death
row that she was the attorney for. He was innocent and was treated wrongly by the criminal
justice system that extended his trial for years before he was finally freed.

Amnesty international is another website that provides information about basic human rights and how
they are abused by the death penalty. Their major points involve the unfairness of capital
punishment involving race, and mental illness. They also talk about how it does not deter crime,
and is completely arbitrary and costly.

David Von Drehles main points in his argument about the death penalty are that there have been a
number of executions that have failed and have basically been considered torture. The victims
were not killed and were considered failed executions. He also talks about how there are too

many people on death row and the trials for them have backlogged into a huge mess. The death
penalty does not make for a quick trial and conviction like it states in the Constitution.
