From the rear of the hat begin wrapping a long

piece of cloth around the helmet. The cloth should

be higher at the sides than at the front and rear
where it should dip towards the brim. It may be
necessary to pin the cloth in place when starting.

At the front of the hat the cloth should be twisted

upon itself once before continuing to wrap towards
the rear of the hat.

At the rear of the hat twist the cloth upon itself

once again. Continue to wrap the cloth around the
hat making sure to leave a part of the cloth from
the first “fold” exposed.

Continue wrapping the cloth around the hat twist-

ing at the front and rear and leaving a part of cloth
from the preceding pass exposed.

When you have completed as many folds as you

would like. Tuck the end of the cloth under the
preceding fold at the rear of the hat.

NOTE: The puggaree pictured was finished at the front of the

hat only because the cloth was too short. The puggaree should
be completed at the rear to ensure that the number of folds is
even on each side.
