LESSON#: 3

FACILITIES: Pool

GRADE: 5/6 UNIT/THEME: Swimming GENERIC LEVEL:

Control/Utilization
EQUIPMENT:

1. 20 swim goggles 2. Pool equipment 3. Bathing suit 4. Towel 5. 20 Kick

boards
FOCUS OF LESSON: Safety, Streamline position, flutter kick, rhythmic breathing
STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (SPO):
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
(P): Demonstrate a proper sequence of rhythmic breathing during the kick board breathing activity
(SHAPE S1.M24.6; MA CF 2.17)
(C): Identify 3 skill cues of the flutter kick during the lesson when asked by the teacher (SHAPE
S1.M24.6 MA CF 7.5)
(A): Demonstrate good listening skills towards the instructor by meeting the class expectations by the end
of the lesson (SHAPE S4.M1.6; MA CF 2.26)
Check each objective: Is it specific? Is it achievable? Is it developmentally appropriate?
TEACHER PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES - During the lesson the teacher will:
1. Check understanding for skill cues
2. Use students to model good behavior and demonstrate activities
3. Give positive and corrective feedback to students throughout the entire lesson
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the students
in this class?
Since it is a pool there is always that risk of a student drowning. The pool is probably the most dangerous
place a PE lesson can occur so the teacher needs to keep his or her head on a swivel. The safety rules
need to be addressed and followed. No diving in shallow end, weaker swimmers start in shallow end,
remind students of space awareness during the lesson.
