Rhetorical Situation: A reading advocate trying to reach out to those who dislike reading due to
educational purposes, and in need of a new perspective to look into about reading, to make
reading much more desirable.

Seeking Reading for Pleasure

If you want a way out of reality, reading is the way to go. It may be obligated for
undergraduates, a habit for the elder but is a pleasure for those with the desire to read. Less than
one-third of thirteen-year olds are daily readers, and fifteen- to twenty-four-year-olds spend only
seven to ten minutes per day on voluntary reading, which is about 60 percent less time than the
average American (U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics 2006). The percentage
of seventeen-year-olds who read nothing at all for pleasure has doubled over a twenty-year
period (U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics 2004). Society
has created future generations to dislike reading for pleasure due to the amount of useless
workloads stressing out our youth. But reading is not to be shame upon due to the absurdity of
the school systems, but to be used for escaping the insanity of our realities. For those who have
seen a readers expressive face as they comprehend the imaginative world, the shine in their eyes
as they skim through a poem, and those serious grooves on their foreheads from newspaper
reports. When someone reads, the act distracts the mind and heart from their train of thought.

Our thoughts and emotions are generated as our eyes swing left to right. The pleasure becomes
an instant and lingering constant within our mind.
When someone needs to lift up the harsh realities from their shoulders, they sink into the
deep sea of imagination, if you are having a stressful day, you should pick up a fictional novel
for relief, it distracts your thoughts of negativity to something more positive and addictive. With
fiction novels, many say it is hard to put the book down because of how into it you are, and its a
struggle when you read before bedtime. This transition process helps turn depression to
happiness, pain to comfort, failing to succeed, and anxiety to hope. This daily act helps soothe
your mind from anxiety and the fiddling factor in your life. It allows you to sit down and relax.
When a reader is upset, and they shed their burdens of those harsh realities so it no longer loiters
over their shoulders.
Many may not know, but then reading, our brain get some sort of intellectual satisfaction
in the process. Which is why we are forced to get into the habit of reading and analyzing at
grades kindergarten, starting with our simple ABCs. As we pass each grade we are more aware
of the hidden factors and benefits in reading. Getting the background information about a book,
increase in vocabulary, improvement in our fluency skills, comprehensive skills and strategies,
motivation in ourselves; also become more familiar with the genres, text structures and features.
Like a serious literature paper inspires academic activity in our minds; helping us enhance our
knowledge and understanding of human conditions. Detective novels gratify our sense of
curiosity and makes our thoughts intertwine in a deep investigation with ourselves; and helps
build common-sense scenarios to relate with reality. Light literature humors the emotional part of
our brains which is located in the frontal lobes; it gives us various ways to see the shades of
laughter. Poetry allows us to become tongue-tied with our alliterations, metaphors, and rhymes;

giving us the help to create skills like improving our memory, verbal, and critical thinking skills,
developing empathy and insight. Reading allows us to relive our past memories. When we read
we become more enriched with our experiences and much sharper in judgement skills. As we are
more aware of what we read, our experiences make us wisdom and self-control.
Books are our companions when humans are not. Readers are very comfortable spending
their lonely hours in the company of fictional, made up characters as if they were really there
with them. Each influential fictional character has been created to reach out to those who are in
need of comfort, assurance, and change in our behavior and thoughts to match with that
character. We let our minds become their very own home theaters that we can take where ever we
are; on the go, underneath sheets, or in our porcelain thrones. Reading is a pleasure for it is
beneficial to us in various ways. It gives us an unworldly, scholarly, and even sensuous pleasures
in our day to day live. We should not let school systems destroy the necessity of reading for
pleasure, so pick up your favorite novels, articles, and poems and begin relieving yourselves.
