Brochure for The
Healing Center
Abstract
The Healing Process is designed to provide the much needed services of rehabilitation to treat
alcoholism and temporary housing to combat homelessness, both of which disproportionately
affect the Navajo people in Gallup, New Mexico. The Healing Center organization will
hopefully be funded by Grants for the Benefit of Homeless Individuals-Services in Supportive
Housing who offer $400,000 a year , over the course of 3 years. Overall, there is a specific
need for this program, and no other program in New Mexico offers this much extensive
assistance. In order to fully guarantee the success of the program for individuals, it is only
reasonable that they receive the best services available.

In the implementation of The Healing Center, a board of local and regional representatives from
the Substance abuse and Mental Health authorities, health department, service providers as well as
individuals from the community who have experienced homelessness/alcohol addiction to provide
input on the proposal are encouraged to attend. It is very important that the community of Gallup, and
the Navajo community are aware of the proposal and are able to help in its implementation.
The objective of The Healing Process organization is to help individuals who are suffering from
alcohol addiction, and homelessness. We will not exclude individuals who are not homeless. We will
attempt to provide services to people who meet one or both of the conditions. In reaching the
individuals who need our services, the best strategy is to have a referral program from Gallups Detox
Center, other homeless shelters, Police Departments, and Government assistant facilities (Department
of Economic Security), Healthcare facilities and lastly information to the public who might have a
family member who could benefit from our services.
Treatment approaches
Specific steps will be taken for our clients:
1. Initial assessment from the clinical nurse
a. Vital signs
b. Skin observation
c. Health questionnaire
2. Inventory of items taken in with
3. Provided with clean set of clothes, allowed to bathe, meal provided- placed in temporary
housing
4. Team of counselors, therapists, (family, if any), meet to discuss needs and specially
designed program to help the individual to a healthy and stable state.
The services provided by The Healing Process are case specific, and designed by a team of welltrained staff to maximize the benefits and success of the program. If the clients feel they have control
in their situations, we allow them independence, empowerment and strength to overcome their current
situation. In this strategy, we are not forcing the individual to change, but instead showing them a
better lifestyle and providing them the resources to succeed. The saying of you cant make someone
change, they have to change themselves.
[Identify any other organization(s) that will participate in the proposed project. Describe their roles and
responsibilities and demonstrate their commitment to the project. Include letters of commitment from these

educated individuals for dealing with extreme conditions of homelessness and alcohol abuse.
