Missouri Pre-Service Teacher Assessment (MoPTA)

Lesson Plan Format

Name:

Allen Weltig

Grade Level/Subject Course:

Unit:

Honors Biology

Cells and Cell Transport

Lesson Topic:

Cell Theory and Basic Anatomy

Lesson Length/Time: 120 minutes

Number of Students: 25
Standards/Quality Indicator/Skills
Show-Me Standard 3. Characteristics of Living Organisms
NGSS LS1.A: Structure and Function-Multicellular organisms have a hierarchical structural organization, in
which any one system is made up of numerous parts and is itself a component of the next level.
CCSS ELA/Literacy: SL.11-12.5 - Make strategic use of digital media to enhance understanding of findings,
reasoning, and evidence and to add interest.
Learning Objectives/Goals
1. Students will know the general anatomy and functions of cellular anatomic features
2. Students will understand the principles of cell theory.
Learner Outcomes:
3. TSW will completely name, illustrate, define and relate to other parts each of the cell organelles and
anatomic features in a Flip-book product,
4. TSW will match the name of the organelle to functions in a selected response quiz with 80% accuracy.
5. TSW will correctly select the names, functions, components and interactions of the cellular
anatomy/organelles in 30 multiple choice questions.
6. TSW will name AND describe the role of selected organelles in a written response performance event
with 80% accuracy.

Differentiation/Accommodations/Modifications/Increase in Rigor
Repetition of parts and procedures through different means of presentation (verbal, video, product). Activities
include kinesthetic, interpersonal, auditory, visual and linguistic components. Increases in rigor occur with
extensions below.
Classroom Management
The teacher will give clear and concise instructions of activities and expectations. The teacher will make sure he
has the attention of all students throughout the lesson. Laboratory transitions occur only after explicit instruction.
The teacher ensure students are following the classroom norms, set at the beginning of the year, the entire class
with positive reinforcement, reminders or corrections. Small group work will be monitored for on-task behaviors.
Extensions
Specialized cell project
