Overview

Students will discuss the reading from previous day.


Students will read during this 45 minute period.

Objectives

Students will show comprehension about previous reading.


Students will participate in reading the current assignment.

7.SL.2.1:
Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (oneonone,
in groups, and teacherled) on gradeappropriate topics, texts, and
issues, building on others ideas and expressing personal ideas clearly.
7.SL.2.2:
Investigate and reflect on ideas under discussion by identifying specific
evidence from materials under study and other resources.

Procedures

Extensions

1)
Have students pull out their novels and post-it notes.
2)
Use the discussion questions to get students thinking
about their reading critically. Make sure to ask all discussion
questions ~20 mins
3)
Begin to read chapters 15 & 16. Make sure to remind
students to be marking any important passages showing their
characters relationship with Percy.~25 mins
4)
Have students read throughout the class period. Only take
volunteers if you feel confident about knowing your students
reading abilities- otherwise read the section yourself.
5)
If the section is not finished in class then it will be
homework due the next reading day. Students will see those dates on
their calendar but you should mention when the next reading day is.
IEP and ELLs should not be chosen to read aloud unless you feel that
they are able to handle the pressure.
