Friendship Assignment Activity

Overview

Students will walk around the room looking at other students


presentations and compare others chosen characteristics with their own.

Objectives

At the end of the lesson students will have compiled a list of traits that
their classmates feel are important to friendships.

Materials

Individual lists of characteristics


Surfaces- open to the notebook named after their character

Standards

7.SL.2.1:
Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-onone,
in groups, and teacherled) on gradeappropriate topics, texts, and
issues, building on others' ideas and expressing personal ideas clearly.
7.SL.2.2:
Investigate and reflect on ideas under discussion by identifying specific
evidence from materials under study and other resources.
7. SL.2.5:
Acknowledge new information expressed by others, and consider it in
relation to ones own views.

Procedures

1)
Students will spread their posters out around the room.
~5 mins
2)
With their list of characteristics in their hands, students
walk around and look at other students posters.
3)
Have students make a mark next to the trait on your list
every time a classmate used the same one in their project
4)
Students should also write down any traits they did not
think of that they think are important as well. 15 mins
5)
As a class, discuss the most used traits and what makes
the students think they are the most important (since they all chose
them)
6)
Come up with a master list or character traits (6-10:
half good/half bad). 15 mins
7)
Tell students that these are the traits they should be
looking for in their character when he/she interacts with Percy.
8)
Have them move the page Things to Consider out of
the content library and save it in their OneNote character section.

Have students answer these questions in OneNote 10

Extensions

ELL students can ask about any words or concepts they do not
understand.
IEP students can talk to me about specifics, if they need to come in and
work with the teacher during their Enrichment (Study Hall) then write
them a pass.
