Bible Engagement Resources.

Everything that we do at Scripture Union focuses on Bible engagement, the process of helping people of all ages
take in and live out Gods Word. In addition to the quality content that continues to be produced in our Encounter
with God, Discovery Bible guides, 2015 brought a new focus on Social Media ministry, which translates to a 27%
growth in the nation-wide reach of SUs ministry; a whopping 789,563 adults and children engaged with Gods
Word through SU programs.

Social Media

In 2014, SU launched several Facebook Pages beginning in October 2014 with I

Need Jesus, an i nspirational g raphics-based m inistry w ith wide appeal t o the
Christian demographic on Facebook. Worlds Largest Bible Study was next and
began w ith the New Year, going t hrough The E ssential 100 r eading p rogram.
Worlds Largest Prayer Group was added in the Spring with high-quality graphics,
in this case with inspirational prayers and calls to pray, while I Want My Kids to
Know Jesus reaches out to encourage parents. Each ministers with fresh graphics and Scriptural or inspirational quotes several times each day. Worlds Largest
Bible Study has enjoyed the greatest success, 2,300,000 were reached in the first
half of 2015.

Statistics are from January to June 2015

Bible Guides:

Backbone of Bible Engagement Ministry

I just wanted to say that I have been using your

magazine for 5 years this coming summer. I love it! A
friend got me hooked when I was 32 and I got a few
others to join with me.
Encounter With God is the best daily devotional I have
ever had. I am so glad I discovered it. I appreciate the
history background to the passage as well as the
spiritual application.

Since 1959, Scripture Union Bible Guides, originally known

as N otes, have helped i ndividuals meet G od every day
through the Bible and prayer.
In 2015, our Bible guides found a new print home with Freeport Press, which brought a $350,000 annual cost savings
and revolutionary new UV techniques for printing the color
covers and shorter turnaround times on a high speed press.
The transition went off without a blip to our readers sense of
quality of the guides.

CHILDRENS MINISTRY
Bible Engagement for Children

SuperKids Volunteer Wanda Novales declared, The Recreation

Center Director said that he had never such energy at the Rec. Center.
Many of the parents stayed to wait for their children. Four of the
moms received salvation. We had five families attend church on Sunday.
All of them went up to receive salvation.

Engaging children with t he B ible has been t he i nspiration f or S cripture U nion

since i ts i nception the summer of 1867. That was w hen a young B ritish o ffice
worker, Josiah Spiers, took children from his Sunday School to a special meeting
of hundreds o f children. The children were lively and enjoying t hemselves and
seemed t o understand t he B ible t eachings. S piers was greatly i mpressed w ith
this i nformal and e ffective approach t o ministry t o children. H e soon began
holding regular services of his own for children with attendance in the hundreds
as The C hildrens Special S ervice M ission ( CSSM), w hich l ater became
ScriptureUnion.

SuperKids Programs
Pastor Florence Freeman told Lisa Williams, our Mid Atlantic Regional
Director, A young boy chose to miss baseball practice in order to
attend SuperKids. His father and grandfather came out [to SuperKids]
to see what was so important to him that he would choose
church over ball practice.
SuperKids Missions meet for 5 to 10
days t o reach k ids with t he G ood
News of Jesus using our SuperKids
curriculums. I n the summer of 2014,
SuperKids programs reached 6,851
kids at 125 program sites and volunteers were trained t o teach Good
News t o
You t hrough t he
SuperKids Gospel of Luke.

Lisa Williams with a SuperKid!

A SuperKids survey w as commissioned summer 2014 as a follow-up

to the 2010-2011 Barna Survey. The
2014 findings r evealed t hat 92% o f
children surveyed f elt that w hat t hey
liked the most about SuperKids was
that they felt more loved by God and
that t hey had learned new t hings
about Jesus ( 77%). E ven m ore
encouraging, 85% described t hat
because o f SuperKids t hey want t o
read the Bible and that they believe
the Bible is true (62%). None of the
children thought t he B ible w as
boring.

Dr. Michael S taples was

promoted f rom Regional
Director t o National F ield
Director this year and a s is
responsible for building an
effective and profitable Field
Ministries unit within SU
USA.
Michael brings a b road
background of experience to
this position as a missionary,
educator, community development d irector and mobilizer of church volunteers to
work with youth and children
over a 25+ year span i n
multiple continents and
dozens of countries.
Michael is passionate about
seeing t he churches i n the
US not only connect to God
through the Scriptures but
develop a passion and heart
to r each t heir communities;
in particular the children.
He looks forward to working
with
various m
inistry
partners t o achieve that
mission.

Sonia Dobson, Northeast Regional Director, tells

us that Tina came to SuperKids in Brooklyn, New
York for the first time. She was very excited and
quite active. She was having a great time with the
activities even though they were new to her. Tina
took part in every activity. When it was time for
the Bible verses she struggled with her speech but
tried real hard to say the verses and sang all the
songs. Each day she was able to say her bible
verses. On the final day of the SuperKids Tina got
up in her excitement, raised her hands in the air
and shouted out Jesus is my great big
wonderful God, I love him so much.

Thanks t o everyone t hat m ade t his

summer a super success. S uperKids was
conducted as part of various sports camps,
apartment outreach Bible Clubs, leadership
camps and community centers. Most sites
provided t he k ids with b reakfast, lunch
and/or snacks.

PrimeTime Program

Sonja Samuel, South Central Regional Director, center, at a PrimeTime.

PrimeTime is a faith-based after school program jointly developed with The Salvation Army. Aimed at children 6-12
years old, the uniqueness o f this childrens Bible engagement p rogram i s that i t was carefully w ritten f or r eaching
children who are not familiar with the Bible.
During 2014 - 2015, PrimeTime after-school outreach programs expanded its reach to at-risk children. Programs were
added i n Pennsylvania, M assachusetts, New Jersey, N ew York, F lorida, S outh Carolina, Texas and C olorado and
resulted in 84 programs ministering to 3,482 children between 1st and 6th grades.

Omar, 14, is excited about what God is doing in his life. He came into our program hurt emotionally and
depressed, but recently he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Now he is a lead singer and musician at the
church. He brought his mother and family, and they are now attending regular services. Also I have a young lady
named Violet. She is 10 years old and was very shy. She accepted Jesus Christ and now is one of the girls on the
Praise Dance Team! She was so excited about what she is doing, that it caused her mother to come and see
what she was so excited about. Now Violet, her mother and 7 more siblings are attending church and
participating in our daily programs. God is doing something spectacular.

The Living Hope global initiative entered its final phase in 2014.
During the p revious three years Scripture Union International went
through a process of listening to the Spirits voice and setting priorities
as it moves toward our 150th anniversary in 2017. Creative ministries
and initiatives emerged around the world as a result of Living Hope.
Consultations r egarding s tructural r eview began i n 2013 w ith final
discussions taking place at an expanded SU InternationalCouncil meeting in Jacksons Point, Canada, in September 2014. Changes in SU
global structures and operations were agreed and summarized in the
Jacksons Point Accord. Following t his the transition toward a new
structure or framework that is appropriate to this time in SU history
and the nature of our Movement began in early 2015.
