NOTES
Violence and Goodbye are two of the earliest pieces that Millett ever wrote, and display the very
rudimentary structures he used at that time.
The Loneliness Of An Ex Call Girl, Embrace The Darkness, and Abyss display another early technique of
Milletts, that is writing several new pieces in one sitting. He would call these composing sessions. Both
Embrace The Darkness and Abyss are previously unreleased.
Also both previously unreleased, Enter, Show Us Your Religion and The Cosmopolitan Body show Millett
branching out with more ambitious structures and themes.
The previously unreleased Friendship dates from Spring 1992, while the previously unreleased Away In The
Air is from September 1992, and was written in England.
Father and Estrogen from the Fall of 1992 show Millett improving as a writer and conceptualist, while the
previously unreleased Sensuous Patterns and Heads-On-Sticks (both written during the same composing
session at Nazareth) show Millett trying his hand at a more surrealist style.
Tongue In Cheek, written at Nazareth is interesting to compare against its released version as an example
of how Millett was beginning to improve as an editor of his own material.
The Dark Kiss, Hodag, Summer=Life, This Is Me, Nutrient, Her, and Shower comprise the complete set of
drafts written in one night in Rhinelander, WI during the Summer of 1993. Her, Hodag, and This Is Me are
all previously unreleased. Pool was written in Michigan that same Summer.
From the Fall of 1993, Snake Dance is a previously unreleased experimental piece, while Wonderland,
Antagonism, Testosterone, and Weve Been Shat On all found a home in Milletts first book.
My Gentile, Plaintive Beauty is an intriguing look at Milletts much rumored unreleased novel, The Great
American Novel.
Finally, the 1994 chapter of this material is the first ever release of Illusion Is The First Of All Pleasures.
You may remember this was written about at length in the re-release for Artcore Naked, though not
included in that collection. Reading Milletts paper thin explanations for each poems inclusion is hilarious,
and only topped by the teachers final comments of Im not really sure if its genius or garbage.
Thanks for reading. The love I feel from the public makes it all worthwhile.
